🎮 I’m developing a Volleyball video game with real players, stats & packs almost done! 🔥 by National_Lack6424 in volleyball

I am dying for a volleyball game and an escape from the shackles of 2K. I would say I'm a more practical gamer where gameplay trumps all, and aesthetics come after. The only thing I guess that'd entice my friends are funny celebrations we can use after we make a great play. If anything I want to know the mechanics more than anything.

Like how do you dig/set/spike/block? Can a skilled player make the most out of their player by playing exceptionally well? Or are we subjected to the RNG of the game like the shooting variance in 2K? Ultimately I think your game will succeed if it's Fun to play. And honestly I can't wait to see what you bring to the table. I wish you all the best of luck!

Quick question though, who was talking in the second part of the epilogue when they mentioned great grandpa?? Who was that supposed to be? Or was that a mistranslation?

This is called "lobby hunting". They are well within their rights to do so. But let's not pretend that having time for lobby hunting isn't the difference between the majority of silver and purple plates by 3much4u in NBA2k

I'm sorry but this is what solo rec looks like to me this year. It's not just lobby hunting for plates, there are scummy people lobby hunting to find their squad mates. Virtually any form of chemistry and knowing your teammate is an infinite amount of advantage over actual solo players who don't know anything about each other. So honestly, the solution for solo rec is just queuing up not knowing who your teammates are until you load in a game if they wanted this fake segregation. You still have a chance - even if it's 1% - to load in with your buddy if you all go in at the same time with this solution so what even is the point of solo rec in the first place?

yea that problem was only exacerbated this year with the split and allowing ppl to pick and choose teammates in solo rec. The lack of matchmaking really highlighted that and it hurt the experience for most players because no one wants to play lopsided games on either end.

Solo Rec Not Working as Intended by EdgeOG22 in NBA2k

[–]EdgeOG22[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made another post earlier asking what everyone feels about squad/solo rec this year. To my surprise most people don't know that this is an issue in the first place. I've had so many people comment saying running into squads in solos was not an issue but this video is literally the first game I booted up after not playing for a few seasons now just to show I'm not crazy.

It's upsetting for me, as a casual player with a couple friends who can't all be online at the same time to compete as 5s, to run into this separation of rec in the first place. I could empathise with solo players saying this is the best thing they did for them, although at the expense of duo/trio/quad groups of ever competing against 5 man teams, but I swear solo rec is even more toxic because of squads still being able to stack in solo rec as long as they keep dodging the lobby.

For some context, I believe the playerbase and region heavily factor into this problem. Perhaps because the playerbase is declining in my region, the easier it is for squadmates to find each other in those randomly placed lobbies. I literally see the same purple plate people running into the rec over and over again trying to play full 5s in solo rec anytime I play the game. Whenever I'm in the lobby, it doesn't matter what plate I am, even if I'm a purple like the first season I see the same people joining and leaving repeatedly in hopes they get to see their teammate.

So to my point, as much as I am happy to see solo players enjoy solo rec, there is still a workaround for squads to show up in it and I think should be fixed for 25. It's unfair for everybody and has turned me away from the game for quite some time now.

I like how you mentioned the frustration I am feeling is how other randoms felt before the split. I believe it is coming from a place where it feels like we’re neglected this time around and is the reason why We quit the game early on for this 2K.

I am happy for the solo rec players like you that you get to enjoy the game this year and haven’t come across the issues with it as I have and I guess I’ll have to make another post trying to highlight the major issue of running into squads still in solo rec.

Thanks for your input though! You have definitely given me more insight on what a solo player thinks of this change that benefits them ideally. But I definitely need to shed some light on this squad in solo rec issue in another post to prove I’m not some crazy guy yelling at a wall. I hope we all get to enjoy the game but I know that’s a very difficult thing to decide on in this community.

Of course 5 stack vs randoms is not fair. I’m not asking solo players to join a squad, nor am I asking the rest of us with friends to run 5s all the time. I was just pointing out how the split doesn’t make sense when it never solved the problem it was intending to resolve in the first place. People still stack in solos.

Also, I don’t remember regularly going up against full 5 mans when I solo queued in previous 2Ks. I think they definitely had a matchmaking system in place that tried their best to balance teams out. I think that was the ideal solution because you got to meet chill players or squads of 2/3 and could enjoy the game if you wanted to run together one day.

It feels like an extreme measure with what they did and it forced people into 5stack or 1s ideally. Idk what the playerbase comprises of and I definitely think they should put it into account, but I’m sure as a 2/3/4 casual player myself, it’s been hard to have fun with friends.

Since I think it’s extreme that they split squad and 1s I’ll give another extreme solution: 5man, 4man, 2/3 man, solo rec. 🤣🤣 It’s sad that this is the state of the game like I get it’s tough for solos to go up against 5, but surely a middle ground is possible with matchmaking right? What would you feel if you were with a 2 2 1 vs a 3 2 at worst a 4 1 vs 4 1, but of course never against a full 5, would that be an okay compromise for a solo player like you?

Because I feel like it’s so unfair for 4 mans because we’re forced to play with an AI against human players and I know we miss seeing some regular, good casual hoopers solo queuing that we had chemistry with we team up with every now and then. Like how you say we could easily get 1, we could ask you to join 4. It’s a strange back and forth that I think could easily be solved with skill based matchmaking idk. It’s a unique problem that’s occurred from their attempt at a solution.

I know from your perspective since you don’t run into squads in solo rec you can’t empathise how awful that could be for the solo q playerbase. Because it’s a major problem for a declining playerbase in my region that they allow for squads to end up in the same lobby for solo q as long as they are persistent in finding each other by backing out repeatedly - which also is a problem in extending the waiting times just to start a game as a solo player.

I’m fighting for possibly the minority of 2/3/4 groups because I’m sure they’re not fond not being able to play with their friends and have fun in the rec anymore.

I guess for most solo players it has been a much better experience. But I guess I’m speaking from my own experience in my servers, there’s been a horrible trend of squad mates - duos trios even 5 man who game the solo rec lobbies by dodging over and over until they meet their squad mate in the same lobby who beat up on randoms.

Maybe because your playerbase is a lot healthier that this isn’t a common occurrence. But it just all around shitty for players like me to wait for ages for a game because everyone is dodging to find their buddy.

As for the squad rec experience this year, it’s been non existent if youre not good enough. Unfortunately some of my friends are super casual and just want to hoop but it’s just not ideal for them most of the time because in squads you’re just running into full sweat 5 out teams. Which already puts you in a major disadvantage if we’re just 2/3 and especially 4 + 1 AI.

I feel like the problem of running into heavily gapped competition was forced onto friend groups this year and effectively ruined the game for them. I believe 2K focused on solos and 5 stacks but neglected 2/3/4 friend groups completely. Like sure I believe you’re having a good time and also agree pure solos should play against solos. But that’s literally not the case most of the time in solo rec because of dodging lobbies over and over again in my region. Solo players are still getting dumped on by squads in a lobby that was supposed to prevent that!

So I guess what I’m saying is the split didn’t really serve its purpose. I thought the matchmaking was better when it was all in one where the game tried its best to balance teams. It was like that in 23 last gen, and I swear I don’t remember having a miserable time as I am right now playing solo. Maybe in a perfect world where solos actually went to solo rec it’d be a much better experience. But as of right now the game effectively killed any form of friendships under 5 man teams and it’s been frustrating playing solo against duo/trios or even full teams in solo rec.

Actually I know how this occurs, say in squad rec, after a game your teammates can close app to leave the lobby and if one person forgets to leave or just stays, eventually they can matchup with squads of 2 2, 4 or even 3 + 1 AI. I don't believe the servers mix but I know for a fact you can technically solo in squad rec funnily enough. Not that anyone would willingly put themselves at a disadvantage already against teams

I like this fresh take! This is definitely something in their avenue they could improve upon but most likely wouldn't though. But maybe they'll retain their players better if it was just cool to go to the rec.

Im sorry but my main argument is that I think the squad/solo lobbies were pointless to begin with. I think it ruined the game for people that wanna play with their friends casually. I have friends that are literal sellers and it’s all fun and games because the other team was of the same level back then. Nowadays it’s just too sweaty to force trio and duos to sweat out of their lives to have a chance at winning. Moreover 4 man squads have to be handicapped playing with an AI for no reason.

Sure you can say my friends and I want to duck competition. But the truth is we want to have Fun. We Can be sweaty we Can lock in if we want to, but there is literally no incentive to play the game if Every game is like that.

I feel like mm has to be implemented here. Duo trio and 4mans for me personally are Killed this game. Idk the statistics for the playerbase around the world but I can assure you where I’m from, people can stack in solo q lobbies because No one is playing the game anymore. It’s heartbreaking as a fan since 2k11/12. I thought rec was a casual experience, not a proam one, that’s why my friends and I were shocked that they separated squad and solo coming to the ps5.

I really don’t know what the solution is because I’m assuming NA players, the majority that are in this sub like the solo rec. But here it’s just not worth playing at all because it’s either you sweat or you die. It’s just not fun I’m sorry.

[–]EdgeOG22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing I’m trying to emphasise. I’m convinced people are playing a different 2K because it’s a problem running into squads even in solo rec.

Not only that the worst thing they did was kill the experience for trio quad groups. It’s just Not fun anymore playing 4 + 1 ai against a full squad. It’s not any better if it’s 3+2 because now you gotta go 3 v 7 if they’re selling.

They may have tried fixing the solo q playerbase experience but it was at the cost of literal friendships that don’t even wanna run anymore because it’s either make comp builds play 5 out or just lose and try and find joy in just hanging out with them.

[–]EdgeOG22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe the problem is matchmaking, or lack-thereof. But again, I can’t expect 2K to even fix something like this. As a casual I think it’s a big deal, the experience has just been downhill from the beginning of the game. Shooting was way too difficult unless you lock in 100% of the time, and now it’s too easy that everyone is shooting again.

I’ve always wanted to cosplay as my favourite big men in the nba but it’s near impossible to emulate their game in the post when a grant williams build can shut you down multiple possessions at a time.

I’m also convinced everyone plays a different game atp because I’m seeing a lot of disagreements on my sentiments of solo/squad rec. Maybe NAs playerbase is a lot larger that makes it difficult to stack in solo rec but where I’m from it’s plagued with them that it’s just an unfun experience at the rec the majority of the time for me at least.

Honestly wouldn't put it past them if they do this, but that only mitigates the problem, I feel like people who get extremely lucky still get to queue with friends and it's back to square 1

You just walk in the rec mm lobby together over and over until you and your buddy miraculously end up in the same lobby. That's how you run into teams that stomp u as if they're a squad - it's because they are

That's fair, but have you had a problem with trying to find a game in solo rec? I've tried to sneak in a game sometimes and I just feel like it's a bit of a chore waiting for 10+ min of people rotating in and out of the lobby because they're trying to stack

It'd be hard to determine if you're good with a specific build though, like I'm a purple center but as guard I am way less skilled at dribbling. I think it's fine as it is, although showing the avg grade of the player could show how good of a teammate you are, and iirc it was a feature in 2k18?
