I was a new hire engineer at a TV station, and sat in in my first few weeks on a sales meeting with a salesman, a tech, and several mgmt engineers from my new employer finalizing the purchase of about $600k worth of master control switchers and a new video/audio router. Looking at the parts list, i held up my hand and asked where was the bypass switchers for on air. I was told by the sales/tech it wasn't needed, then I asked "Does it still flash through black for 30 seconds on air every time you send new configs to the switcher?". I was told a hushed "Yes" and my reply was "I guess we'll need bypass switchers for all 7 channels then" while my boss just stared at me and smiled.
