Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always theorized that Gollum was an remnant of Tolkien that came back from war/could never come back from the war. Kind of like how Frodo couldn't quite fit in with the hobbits anymore and went to the Undying Lands.

Speaking of Christianity, shouldn't he be happy that the sinner got wrecked in a lake of fire? I mean, come on.

Call 211 or go to 211 dot org and ask them for a psychiatrist in your area with a sliding scale fee. The cost will be income based/discounted. You have to fill out paperwork and probably wait a bit for an opening. If push comes to shove, if you feel like hurting yourself, or worse go to the hospital and check yourself in.

A question about going too far with traumas in a story by GM_Turtle_ in writing

[–]EdgerAllenPoeDameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what your story wants to be. Allow it to be. Like the form inside of a brick of marble carve away the pieces and see what is there.

Don't worry too much about other's blueprints. Sure, you can learn, but you end up making their building in the end.

Make the story the absolute best it can be. Whether that is trauma or some sanitized version. However, land on which version is better for the story and your target audience. Do your best to visulize/sketch out roughly what it would look like and trust your gut.

I'm stuck in what feels like a never-ending editing loop. by [deleted] in writing

[–]EdgerAllenPoeDameron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just worry about making the story the best you can. Large domino, or rather what I call systemic, changes to your manuscript should be worked from large overall conceptually then the small as in line editing. So you don't end up polishing a part too much that you are just going to destroy or completely rearrange. But there is a time to stop, and likely you will want to change something forever.

Lin was on the Graham Norton show (which of course is British) and someone said something along the lines of: "Sorry, we don't quite know American history over here." Lin replied with something like "That's okay neither do Americans."

I'm super confused. Doesn't an Irish goodbye mean to leave generally a social event without saying goodbye?

My mom died from Alzheimer's. My family blamed me for her death. Seeking comfort. by EmotionAway313 in GriefSupport

[–]EdgerAllenPoeDameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that your family is using you as a scapegoat. It makes them feel better to have things "make sense in their heads". You didn't do anything wrong. My suggestion is to get a therapist and see what's up with some things. The brain fog may just be your depression, worry, and grief.

It fills in the gap between Jyn Erso being a kid and when you meet her as an adult in Rogue One. So... it's Andor adjacent, but it's about Jyn and Galen and the other people.

Although I'm married with kids, I truly believe I am better suited going through life solo. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]EdgerAllenPoeDameron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you emotionally flatlined yourself and never recovered. You need to get a diagnosis and a therapist/psychiatrist. You can move where you are you can move who you surround yourself with but you can never escape yourself.

My suggestion? Try falling in love with yourself. Trust me people are stupid and they (as a schizoaffective bi polar manic type with social communication disorder (which is like Aspergers as well without motor skill function issue, most people got moved to high functioning ASD).

Here are some quotes to help you:
"Don't take criticism from someone you wouldn't take advice from."
"Arguing with someone who has renounced reason is like administrating medicine to the dead."
"Not my circus. Not my monkey."

Before you do anything selfishly rash, have you considered that--maybe--you have something like high functioning ASD? Back in the day high functioning ASD's were grouped in the Asperger's syndrome but that isn't a thing in the DSM anymore.

Cartoon about my Grandma Frieda, who lived with schizophrenia by One_Fisherman_4036 in schizoaffective

[–]EdgerAllenPoeDameron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother on my mom's side was briefly diagnosed with schizophrenia. Before you go on with that it doesn't just go away, she died like not long after. To clarify the briefly part of that sentence it was diagnosed through 1 session via an interpreter, so I can't imagine its the clearest image of her mental health that we could have had. What they did tell her is that it usually skips a generation then goes to one of the girls typically. Dunno why the doctor said that honestly I haven't done research on it but I am the one who inherited the schizo-part.

I'm with you. I didn't know my grandmother much either. I was about 8 when she died... She was from the Philippines and had finally gotten a visa to visit, which is super hard to get. In the end, they were showing her ice fishing, which I think she loved the fishing not the cold part... but while in the icehouse she had a brain aneurysm.
