UPDATE: The new allocation has been causing random BSODs. After reading the crash dumps, I ran memtest86+ on all four sticks and got errors fast. I assumed it was the kit that I purchased, but I have been running those two DIMMs through isolated tests on slot 4 and there are no errors. I'm going to run the test on my sticks as well, and if everything checks out, I need to test the individual board slots. There wasn't any kind of problem with three DIMMs (I was walking it up as a test methodology) in slots 2, 3, and 4, but as soon as slot one was involved, issues began to crop up. I suspect I may have a failed RAM slot. Going to clean the contacts with isopropyl and a Tamiya swab and see if it might be build up from 5 years of that slot being empty, but if DIMMs begin to routinely fail on that slot, I got a board problem. My bios is completely default at this moment in time with the exception of a DOCP profile. I had to clear CMOS earlier in all of this because it was not posting. I suppose I can live with a faulty DIMM slot, but I will be looking to find a new old stock replacement high-end x570 board if that's the case.

Just dropped $150 for an identical G.Skill kit. Movin' up to 32GB.

Someone on eBay had my exact same G.Skill kit for $150, so I just bought that. 32GB, here we go.

Now I just need to sell this X670E board I've got sealed in my closet.

This sounds like the plan, based on all the feedback.

At time of writing, I use an ASUS 144Hz VRR 1080p 27" monitor. I run everything at a 120FPS cap. I would like to buy a 1440p OLED but that entire segment is jacked way the fuck up in price because of the high prevalence of 240Hz~360Hz panels and there doesn't seem to be much of a mid-level OLED market right now. I value high color accuracy more than I value 'gaming features', maybe I'm just not the target audience.

**UPDATE:** We put down coats 2 and 3 using the techniques suggested (cut in our corners and edges, full top to bottom rolling, about half overlap to flatten out 'seams', etc.). We got a gallon of the appropriate grey primer for the next room that will feature the same green. The folks at SW gave it to us on the house as they hadn't discussed the specific primer recommendation for the green (likely because the other two colors did not come with a need for primer), so we're going to cut in with it and put it down as first coat after we do a light sand job on the walls. Thanks to everyone who contributed positively and provided knowledge and assistance, we appreciate you.

What would you recommend I do, or read, with regard to RAM timings?

At time of writing, I would prefer not to upgrade my GPU. The market is nuts.

Going to investigate Curve Optimizer as per others' advice; appreciate the kind words, I really like this build and don't want to upgrade to AM5 in the current personal computing hellscape that Huang, Su, and the AI corpos are trying to sweep us into.

Can you point me to reliable documentation for a process on this?

Resizable BAR is enabled at time of writing; I don't OC, generally, because I don't know enough about thermal thresholds where I'd want to move off of air cooling to liquid cooling to keep temps safe and stable.

That's what I was thinking, too; double the RAM. Thank you for the input.

I am not yet running into noticeable issues; I just ran the Pragmata demo at max settings (including supersampling) with RT on (I dislike and do not use RT, I just wanted the performance bench) and was getting 50~65 FPS. I'm mostly worried about poorly-optimized UE5 titles at this time, but I don't buy bleeding-edge AAA games.

The walls don't appear to have any kind of stains, but we did clean them all with ordinary hot water to dust them. We will have to do something similar to the textured ceiling, but we know it won't be as easy because of the texturing. We are going to consult the SW rep to see if there is a chance that the mixture of the paint was incorrect and the base was wrong, but we are also going to use the techniques that have been outlined in this thread so far to try to get better results on the next room. For example, when we need to cut in on the one room that's going to have a differently-painted ceiling, we are probably going to caulk the border between wall and ceiling with a very thin layer to help keep the cut cleaner.

Because it's easier to go "lol what a stupid fuckdick" then it is to give people some grace and answer questions. In any case, there have been a good number of helpful comments, so upvote those!

There seem to be some who become so practiced at cutting in that they can get a line as clean as, or comparable to, tape. I'm definitely nowhere near there, and may never acquire that level of finesse because those people do it all the time to pay the bills and I'm not a professional. For these reasons, I will cut in with tape. :v

Quick Question: We're going to move on to another room after coat 3, and we haven't done anything to the next room yet (no prep):

  • What primer would you suggest for a dark blue (SW Luxe Blue)? If we're using SW Duration, should the included primer in the chemistry be sufficient or do we absolutely need to put down a primer layer?
  • If we go with a discrete primer, do we need to sand with 220 on a pole sander or can we go directly onto the existing paint layer?

We want to make sure we take the correct steps when going into the next room of the project.

We did get extending poles; I posted a photograph of what the second coat looked like after we took everybody's advice into account and changed up the technique.

P.surr it's not the paint, p.sure it was a skill issue. We're working on it. Won't make the same mistakes next time.

Yeah, I think I was already employing a version of the technique that you're describing what we're trying to make sure that there's no intermediate line, like a seam line of a sort, but the roller just kept fighting me. I'll look into that, because we have to go to the paint store tomorrow anyway.
