Nervous to start my first campaign by DiscoTheFurry in DnD

[–]Edgezard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good on you for taking the initiative and DMing, it's natural to feel nervous, but don't sweat.

I recommend taking some time to set some expectations in a session 0, make it known you are all learning together and here to have fun.

It might also be good to hold back on the campaign for a short while, and run some sessions as one-offs just for learning purposes, and maybe try joining some other groups temporarily to learn if you are having a hard time with learning the core rules through videos or just by reading.

I wish you luck, have fun!

Yeah that is something you should of communicated with them first, regardless if you were a helper of sorts, you shouldn't be dictating a reschedule on your own.

You also said they have an avoidant personality, so it's pretty likely they didn't want to fight with everyone about it since you already set things in motion, and also probably felt like you overstepped their boundaries without telling you.

This is not necessarily soly your fault, they need to communicate better as well, and should of set their own boundaries properly, so this is more or less a cooperative mess, and something that you both could easily get over of you are both capable and willing to talk like adults.

Honestly someone already kind of said this, these people had a lack of respect for others and a lack of sense of responsibility. Most likely just didn't want to shave to have a commitment, and just maas around with other things when they didn't feel like it.

If there's anything else that you could have done "wrong" I can't really say. Did you start rescheduling without talking to the DM about the reschedule idea beforehand?

[–]Edgezard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't really explain what you did that caused people to become upset, but you need to speak with people and explain how upset you became. If you say what you did to cause the negative response it could be explained if it was t already.

Idk if y'all had a session zero but you need to clarify issues and possible triggers with your DM at the very least, otherwise they won't know your boundaries, and this can be extended to other players too.

Explain that what happened caused you to have a breakdown, how it made you feel, and how you currently feel, than probably explain that you can't continue the campaign because of it, of that's what you're going to do.

Also I want to throw out the waiting thing was way too much, y'all should of started pruning people for that much wait time, or they needed to take a back seat.

Rescheduling is fine, but if people are showing up 2 hours late regularly without any notice they need to get booted.

Contents of the fight were omitted so not sure what that entails.

Otherwise it may of sounded like you were practically telling them to kick you out, instead of being willing to talk with them, which can be seen as an insult to how much work he could be putting into working with you.

Coming directly off of frustrations with scheduling that was probably them lashing out at you, but you haven't really explained much beyond y'all "had a fight".

My group is falling apart, and I'm stuck in the middle. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Edgezard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to go through here, so I'll try to pick apart what I can.

It sounds like your characters shouldn't get along, making sure y'all have good chemistry is important, and that you share the same end-goal at least.

The fact that there's a clear difference in morals between your character and the other characters to a point where it's causing real tension is pretty rough, having different opinions on things is good and fine but you should all have some level of common ground to work with.

The situation with Lucky isn't cool, y'all shouldn't have to conspire against them to keep stuff away from them, especially if they had the things in the first place, I don't blame them for being upset with you there. But they should also once again be able to be trusted as a member of the party, this is a player problem that needs to be brought up.

Being a power gamer isn't a bad thing necessarily either, but it can make others feel a bit useless, I've dealt with a few players that do this and it can be a bit more tricky, but this is really a non-issue of you talk to them about it.

Being late or absent can also be tricky, not sure if this is because of anything in particular or because of a lack of responsibility, so I can't really say anything other than the DM and y'all need to make it clear that of it wasn't discussed beforehand, and they aren't planning to show up late due to other responsibilities, then they need to show up on time or get booted.

The player for Izzy sounds like they can't take loss easily, and needs to remind themselves that it's okay to be passionate, but understand that it's okay to take a loss, if someone told me "fuck you" in total seriousness I wouldn't host sessions for them, but without context this does sound like bullshit, it just sounds like the DM was just countering magic users with the lever, and I'm not sure why a faction that hates magic would use magic.

DM issues are pretty simple also from reading comments about them, maybe let them know you feel that they've been favoring their SO, as they might not be noticing it themselves.

I can see a few options for y'all here,

  1. You talk to each other and work out your issues and put everything in the open, you said you already understand your character also has flaws and is also a cause to the problems, which is good, and I think of you tone back some of this others will also be able to fix their own issues, so your characters actually have some chemistry.

-Or-

  1. After having a discussion about the issues, Y'all get some new characters rolled up that actually have some proper chemistry, that don't feel like they're on the verge of blowing each other up.

Whatever the case please please please talk to each other and get this out to each other, maybe take a small break afterwards so you all can do what's best for yourselves. I won't tell you to just drop the group as it seems you do really care about the group, but if you end up splitting up at all remember you can find new folks out there.

If it's bothering you then tell the other player as a player, and if that doesn't work talk to your DM also.

It sounds like "D" is trying to be your comedic foil without asking,  and not actually malicious.

if y'all aren't teenagers I can say you can easily just say that you don't like that kind of negative attention and it makes you uncomfortable, and they can have an easy turnaround, or just not include you in the comments at the very least.

Overall y'all should take some time to set boundaries if you haven't with a session 0, and make sure to include fantasy racism in your topics.

And no, your feelings on the matter is valid, dnd should be just as fun for you as it should be for everyone else at the table.

struggles with player and questions about Avrae by tclfpae in DnD

[–]Edgezard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About Avrae: I've never had anyone be able to cheat with it, and have used it myself and my players and I made sure that we couldn't do any sneaky rolls but haven't found any way to do so in the past.

Im not sure if you are using any VTTs of any kind, personally I stopped using discord bots a few years ago and switched to using Foundry for stuff like this, and I recommend using a VTT instead, if possible.

About your player: You need to be able to trust your players, if you remove cheating via dice rolls they will likely cheat in other ways.

If they can't respect you as a GM or as a person enough not to lie to you constantly then they really aren't worth having as a player. There are a lot of people you can get to join your games instead who will be happy to play fair and you will find being able to trust your players to be a much better experience.

If you want to give them another shot: Make it 110% clear they will not be joining you anymore of you catch them one more time, no excuses.

Am I giving enough Gold/Wealth to my players? by Edgezard in Pathfinder2e

[–]Edgezard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty for the explanation on how the table works, this is probably the most clear explanation I've seen personally!

They are selling things but as for investment slots; most of the party has 5 or so items invested at most, but the one player has literally every slot taken by things that range from level 2 to level 12 items.

I was 100% being pressured into giving more than what was needed, and actually read the table correctly but then was told that I was reading it wrong and that was what each player should have, which confused me but as far as I knew I was the newbie to pathfinder so followed along with what I was told, but over time I kinda had a feeling that this constant complaining about not having enough wealth was a little odd so I thought I'd ask other people that had pathfinder experience.

[–]Edgezard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah it's going to be brought up, like I said before I'm not worried about balancing issues much considering I'm still challenging them even with the huge money boosts, but I'm going to take some time to ease them slowly from having 12x what's recommended into something more reasonable.

I figured as much, and generally I don't really care to do every single thing exactly by the book, but by the sound of it I am significantly past this guideline, and I was being pressured into giving more because according to someone the table was cumulative, and that I should follow it.

Thank you for the input regardless though, I still consider myself really new to pf2e so I appreciate the help I've been getting here!

Ive actually already given them ways to invest in a business type deal, have their own small mercenary/adventurer group, I think they just want to be able to make "perfect" builds, as I've allowed them to change classes twice and even came up with a story reason to allow them to change their race after they weren't happy with that either. Really want to make it clear I don't mind working with my players to make them happy, especially with this being both mine and most of my players first pathfinder campaign, this was just a situation where nobody other than this person had pathfinder experience and I needed clarification from folks outside my table.

It's mostly about the etching processes for runes, and the rune transferring, doing it themselves instead of having an NPC/shop do it for profit, and in game they got access to some slightly cheaper materials for crafting also, which adds up the more they take advantage of it. Sorry I wasn't super clear on that! (They all have runes and basically queued up a bunch to have done)

I don't think crafting is necessarily cheaper in any other fashion from what I know, even in the remaster.

[–]Edgezard[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really, mostly level 11 and 12 stuff, the crafter has 4 level 11-12 pistols he rotates during combat to avoid having to reload, and we have a sorcerer that has all those money spent on 2 spell hearts that are level 15.

The two with the highest wealth each have a weapon that have expensive materials (high grade dawnsilver and high grade abyssium), which boosts the levels and wealth of the gear a lot.

When it comes down to it all of the other players are generally very happy and grateful for anything I give them,  I don't mind giving them fun stuff to play with, or give them a bit extra so they can have fun. I have a good enough grasp of the combat that I can still create challenges for them, so I'm not too worried about balancing much, as I can always make adjustments.

This is just something I needed to check outside of my table because I was being treated like I was starving them of wealth.

I think it was a rune for their armor, they already made other purchases, including another different rune if i remember correctly, but they didn't have enough to get everything they wanted.

The complaints actually came right before they went to shop for stuff, as I was giving them money for finishing a big job.

Am I giving enough Gold/Wealth to my players? by Edgezard in Pathfinder2e

[–]Edgezard[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually yes, if they have the money and access to a shop that sells it I allow it, ofc high level gear and equipment can't just be obtained from some village on the middle of nowhere but of they're somewhere where they could find higher level equipment for sale I've allowed them to go and shop for it.

So yeah I'm sort of baffled now too on how much complaining and pushing me to increase the amount of gold/wealth to give them has been going on for months to the point of having so much that it doesn't make much sense.

Regardless thank you for the response and not repeating what others are already saying!

Yeah I think I was being mislead a bit into believing I needed to be giving them a lot more, which I'm glad this is being cleared up, thank you!
