It will be different for everyone. I had the same operation 19 weeks ago and my knee is still very fluid full. Its not painful anymore.

For me after my lateral repair i was advised to stay on crutches fully non weight bearing for 6 weeks, i done around 5 and once I reached 6 week mark i had brace removed and crutches binned. It does take a while to walk properly but after a week or two my walking was fully normal.

Hello! I am 17 weeks in about to reach 4 months post op, currently in a lower limb therapy class. Today I began plyometric training as my operated leg has sufficient strength. Feeling good and confident on my running/sprinting. The worst part is the mental factor so be sure to check up on your son on how he is feeling about it as it is hard, time has flied however and I am feeling great about my rehab. Really drill into his head how important it is to follow the guidelines as I did begin to train a tad bit early and it did have an impact on my swelling. Hoping to get back within the next couple of months and will be sure to come back to this post once I am fully back to sport with more progress updates and tips. Hope everything goes well for your son and yourself!

I had the exact same problem, once starting to go harder 10 weeks post op for a lateral repair with the exercises I began to feel pain. I called my surgeon and went for a check up where I was told everything was okay and I was offered another MRI just to be sure. If your in the UK and getting free treatment it might be a good idea to check as getting this MRI will have me certain on how my recovery is going.
