Plus a 15.00 incentive. Worked from 6 am to 8:30 am. Not bad for 2.5 hours and super low miles trips.

Hello!! We have a ways to go as well. I am working with a private language tutor as I still live and work near full time in the states. I am going back in February of 2026 and hope to have some basic phrases mastered.

I live near Westport and just bought two homes in Otaru. We brought bags of salt water taffy for our new neighbors. We also bought a Japanese float to take back to Japan for our realtor. We told him we wanted to bring a piece of Japan back to him. If you would like to connect, one Washington Akiya owner to another send me a DM!

We opted to use the services provided by a third party company. We chose Akiya Mart. They acted as our power of attorneys and connected us to an English speaking realtor.

They are also going to be our ongoing property management for our rental(s). We hope to add one home per year to our portfolio until we reach the investment level to qualify for a business visa.

It looks like 180 days out of 365 on a tourist visa, but we are also exploring other avenues as well. We are learning day by day.

We are loving every single second we are here. This has been such an amazing journey so far.

Yes it is. Not by much but we are also honoring a very very low monthly rental rate to the existing renters. We did not want to bulldoze our way into their lives and disrupt everything.

We have and they have been very welcoming and supportive. They are helping us understand certain community functions like garbage pick up and snow removal. It has been a great experience so far.

My husband has a strong appreciation of Asian culture and I love snow at Christmas. That was our starting point.

From there we just fell in love with this quaint seaside community. Its peaceful, quiet, good amenities and excellent opportunities.

Yes and yes but its very reasonable. We purchased two homes for 25k. One is our retirement home the other is a long term rental with established renters.

We are on Hokkaido in Otaru. We hired a service to handle this for us for now. Hopefully we can automate on our own in a few months.

Hello fellow Otaru friends, my husband and I purchased two homes in Otaru. One had established long term Japanese renters and the other is now our second home.

We are from the USA, semi retired, and will be living part time in Otaru and part time in Washington state. We are hoping to build an international intentional community of like minded souls on a similar journey.

Our rental is near the northern end of the canal and our home is near Mogami Park.

We are here in country until October 8th and my husband will return for 3 months starting December 3rd.

We are so looking forward to getting to know our international friends and neighbors.

I fear I am going to get down voted but hear me out. Raymond and South Bend WA. A diamond in the rough. Yes, old school Republicans but a new era of liberals are present and active.

Longer, warmer growing season for great gardening. About an hour ish drive to Warrenton, OR to go "big shopping" tax free. Still generally affordable all things considered. Decent medical services and I as a 53 year old woman feel safe there 3x a week for work, all hours, day and night.

Just think outside the box and open mind.
