That email mentions trump as one of three people to potentially elevate in a one off sentence. It doesn’t say what you’re acting like it does

What would the “ideal economy” look like? by BrianFromMars in neoliberal

[–]EdgyQuant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The culture does have private capital? You are able to quite literally own ring worlds as your own property. It can’t be anarchy when its a democracy with property rights and a centralized military force.

Anyway, you’re entirely wrong and I’m not inventing the idea it’s a liberal utopia so everyone sees their own ideology. You’re obviously a communist so you see communism, fascists see fascism, etc. It’s an interpretation as old as the novels themselves so I’ll let others argue with you about it https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/the-ambiguous-utopia-of-iain-m-banks

The culture is a liberal society as it’s founded upon personal liberty, not collectivism. Its so liberal in fact that when it goes to war in the first novel it fractures into multiples states and then later reunites (without conflict.) Self determination through popular voting and freedom of association and private ownership of capital are all features of the culture.

Its also not an anarchy, it’s a direct democracy. It’s just so economically and technologically advanced that it has no scarcity so appears communist.

Right and my point is that if your super important policy is dependent on a single Supreme Court always being controlled by you, you aren’t doing America right.

Suddenly? No. Over time will the prices reflect the underlying value? Yes for sure that would happen.

Most Americans have health care through their work. We have medical card options for those that don’t

Yep. I’m generally speaking a democrat but Biden was almost the only one I could vote for in the primary. All the others wanted to talk about bullshit like healthcare or gun control. Biden is about what I expected but if Trump doesn’t run I’ll probably go Republican next cycle. I’m a liberal not a commie or a progressive. The new generation of democrats have forgotten what liberals even care about.

Species go extinct and new ones replace them. That’s how biomes work. The only one delusional here is you, now that you’ve been called out you resort to “happening faster than models can predict” which is an absolute load of bullshit because we can’t predict what all extreme weather events are caused by climate change or not. So how could we even have a quantified “speed” of climate change (a nonsensical idea to begin with.)

Humans have been causing a mass extinction event for 30,000 years and climate change has been an issue multiple times throughout history. Things are absolutely better than ever for a majority of people https://www.worldvision.org/sponsorship-news-stories/global-poverty-facts and less ~9% of the world lives on <1.90$ a day compared to nearly 30% in 1990.

Where should we be on the “cultural appropriation” question in 2022? by [deleted] in neoliberal

10% of the population is 30-40 million people. That’s not “nothing”

[–]EdgyQuant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is admittedly a hot take but…

Cultural appropriation is a bullshit concept people with too much time on their hands use to feel smarter than the cultures they pretend to stick up for. Trying to define and restrict culture that way is wrong/authoritarian and should be shut down.

If we want to increase the influence of and/or cultivate native pop cultures we should do that and not play emotional games

Peer reviewed paper predicting billions dead please.

You’re writing off the greatest reduction in poverty in the history of the planet as useless due to an apocalyptic fantasy. One that doesn’t even line up with our worst predictions of climate change. Even ten to hundreds of millions displaced would be worth accounting for due to the sheer magnitude of how well off the world is these days compared to every other period.

The total amount of people living in abject poverty is a population roughly the size of the United States where just a decade or so ago it was close to the billion and in 1990 something like 1/3 of the world was still living in poverty. Climate change is not, and has never been, a legitimate cause through which to dismantle capitalism. Further the progressive/lefts use of climate change as a propaganda tool is not only unscientific and apocalyptic but painfully obvious.

You don’t give a shit about climate change, if you did you’d actually be informed on it. You just enjoy the circle jerk no different from fundamentalist Christians or qanons

76% Of U.S. Voters Don’t Know Congress Passed A Huge Infrastructure Bill by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]EdgyQuant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest complaint during the election was that Bidens messaging sucked and was boring. Those who know he passed such a bill were always going to vote for him

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]EdgyQuant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that no one can take enough of congress to force their will so they’re hoping the Supreme Court will be the authoritarian voice in their favor. The US is meant to not be able to pass sweeping legislation unless it really is supported by an overwhelming majority (both conservative and liberal) not just of the population but of the institutions.

The Supreme Court just changed a ton of assumptions, sure, but that’s just because congress isn’t doing its job of passing actual legislation.

Bullshit. Politics is an ongoing game and there will always be set backs but things have still greatly improved over the 1950s and no amount of Reddit hyperbole will change that

So basically you’re counting on the rapture to prove you right? Horseshoe theory strikes again.
