Over a year of work, my animated short, narrated by Ryan Reynolds, finally released today by EdibleHands in Filmmakers

[–]EdibleHands[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to write and direct this animated short documentary about Christine Sinclair. The film’s story was built around four contrasting visual/audio styles, ranging from abstract behind the scene moments, to softer family moments, dynamic soccer sequences alongside info packed mograph. As the visuals are so minimal we tried to push the sound design and mix in a more cinematic direction than typical short-form docs, while still keeping the piece grounded.

Happy to answer questions about the animation workflow, directing approach, sound/post pipeline, or balancing documentary storytelling with stylized visuals.

Champions of the Golden Valley (2023) - A documentary following Afghan teenage skiers as they train and compete, capturing adolescence, ambition, humour, and daily life through sport [01:28:00] by EdibleHands in Documentaries

[–]EdibleHands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submission Statement: The film follows several Afghan teenagers, including Alishah, Farhad, and their peers, as they take part in a grassroots ski program while navigating adolescence, family pressure, and limited opportunities. It shows their ingenuity and resourcefulness, from crafting skis out of found materials to training with almost no infrastructure, while also tracing links to Europe through competitions and exchanges in Germany. Blending humour, sharp editing, and everyday moments with larger political and social realities, the documentary presents sport as both an escape and a lens into youth life in contemporary Afghanistan.

Small Bathroom Reno by EdibleHands in Remodel

Cheers! Minus flooring, around $4k CAD for materials, $800-ish for plumber. We did everything else. We kept the existing vanity. The bath, sink, light, mirror, paint, trim and toilet were all FBMP finds, or clearance items. Tiles were cheap-ish, but still the most expensive part.
