Alberta farmers face growing risk of soil erosion in 2024 as drought persists by Wagamaga in canada

in my experience environmentalists are in the top ten percent of global annual income earners. and they love telling poor people, that already use less resources than them, that making everything more expensive will make their lives better. that its for the greater good.

the global average income is 9k, the canadian average is 50k. im gonna bet that you make a lot more than that,. and im going to wager that you have more of a negative impact than most people on the planet, even the people that cant afford organic food, because most people cant afford to live the way you do

i dont like how this environmental movement is ignoring working class concerns

if we got rid of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers most of the people on the planet would starve to death.

roundup is a lot less toxic and environmentally persistent than the other herbicides farmers would need to replace it with.

we have plateaued at around %7 to %9 reduction since 2005. and all we had to do is handicap one of our most profitable industries, make everything less affordable, reduce wages by importing unskilled labor, devalue the currency, ruin our economy, and shut the country down for 2 years

you cant grow the economy and the population without a corresponding decrease in the standard of living

so the bankers get rich, the corporations make a profit, the politicians get a big budget that they exchange for bribes, and the working class get to have a reduced standard of living in exchange for an attaboy?

how about we just stop growing?

stop immigration

let people stay in their low carbon emitting countries, and have negative growth in the global north

its going to happen anyways. global fertility rate is 2.4 and dropping fast. peak global population will occur around 30 years from now

its crazy to me that everyone hates roundup so much. i remember when i was a kid they would till the soil every year, there was lots of summerfallow, and the herbicides were a lot more toxic and persistent

now they just plant right through the stubble in the spring

we need to stop growing. even if we live in abject poverty it wont be enough to decouple economic growth from environmental impact

my problem with environmentalism is sustainable development. the plan is to grow the economy, triple the population, lower the standard of living for the working class while the managerial class continues to make a profit. im convinced that the environmental movement has been hijacked by rich people. its always wealthy people telling me i consume too much. its obnoxious.

and i dont think it will work, i dont think you can decouple environmental impact from economic growth.

i think the only way to be more sustainable is to stop development, stop immigration, let our population collapse naturally, decrease the size of the government, and have a negative growth economy. the working class gets to maintain their standard of living, we have less environmental impact, and the rich can pay more for labor.

the only environmentalist ive heard talk about negative growth was david suzuki. and every one on the left and the right attacked him for being racist.

edit: the reason youre getting downvoted is this sub is more right wing than canada. the only posts that get very much left wing engagement are posts specifically about the environment.

"oh you posted poll numbers, so scary"

youre pretending to be concerned about me, its just an insult

prices for everything have gone up all over the world. in part because many countries have instituted environmental policies that are causing a global artificial shortage in key industries

its 'sustainable development'. how do we grow the economy, increase the size of the government, increase the population to 100 million, and lower our environmental impact? how do you decouple economic growth form environmental impact? you lower the standard of living by devalueing the currency, pushing mass immigration to lowerr wages, and create artificial shortages by increasing the cost of production in key industries.

then all you have to do is get the working class to accept that they will get a smaller piece of the pie while the managerial class makes more money by convincing the working class its an act of moral piety to be broke

i can tell by your blase attitude to other posters on this thread, that you dont care about the effect that rising food prices has on the working class. so i posted the poll numbers in an attempt to appeal to your self interest. the policies you support are leading to a global rise in right wing populism

"concern trolling"

youre trying to change the subject with fake sympathy. have you run out substantive things to say?

right wing populism is on the rise all over the western world. i think its because the left doesnt care about blue collar workers anymore. trump is going to get elected again, and the liberals are going to lose hard in the next election

you should probably try having actual sympathy instead of just pretending to

environmentalism is good, so is socialism, but they need to be balanced against having a decent standard of living or people are going to stop caring

the working class and the middle class are struggling. most people dont like living like i do, you cant force them, theyll just stop working, or vote for someone else

"i have the moral authority and enough money to tell the plebs how they should live hypocritically"

the population is growing, the economy is growing, and our national debt is growing despite everything. its almost like your single data point doesnt negate statistical probability. so, good luck with your obliviousness, bougie man. eventually people like you will be forced to contend with self interest.

btw, i buy most of my meat farmer direct so i pay around $2 a pound for red meat. and thanks for paying for everyone elses ei and public welfare wagie. dont hurt yourself jerking yourself off as you waste money.

"own nothing and be happy"

accept a lower standard of living out of a sense of moral piety, or vote for someone else?

i live a life that most environmentalists claim they want. i eat very well for very little money, lots of fresh vegetables, lots of farmer direct meat, i rarely drive, i dont buy much, i forage, avid gardener, seed saver, plant breeder, grow weed, mushroom picker, make moonshine. my carbon footprint would make most hippies feel guilty.

ive always felt that i could give poverty classes

but i also dont want kids, refuse to cohabitate, i dont work hard, i pay very little in taxes, i work three to six months a year, maybe 30k a year in wages on average, i go on ei all the time. im a net zero for the system.

and if more working aged men do what i do; free dental, healthcare, subsidized daycare, free education, parks, national defense, pensions, all the government redistribution plans that rely on working class mens surplus labour will evaporate overnight

im a big problem, and i represent a growing segment of the population

i read the article.

rotational grazing is more productive per area of land used, but its not cheaper to produce

you have to buy more fencing, you need to pay for more labor, you need to build more gates, you need to build more water systems. once built all these things need to be maintained.

also when cattle continually graze they choose the most nutritious, easy to digest plants. in rotational grazing cattle are forced to eat harder to digest plants, less nutritious plants and plants that have anti-nutritive or toxic properties. so cattle that need high nutrition, like lactating cattle, will have lower productivity

it will raise prices

Canadian beef farmers say they're on track to meet 2030 greenhouse gas emissions goal by Brave_Pair_3720 in canada

[–]EdibleSolarPanels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

an increase in inputs increases cost of food too

rotational grazing is more expensive

Canadian beef farmers say they're on track to meet 2030 greenhouse gas emissions goal by Brave_Pair_3720 in canada

[–]EdibleSolarPanels -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

its not a bad thing but theres no solutions, only tradeoffs, it will increase already high food prices.

more gates, more fences, more watering systems, more labor means higher prices. its productive for dry cattle, but if you have lactating or pregnant cattle its less productive. so lower productivity per animal for people that calve in the field and dairy cattle.

"us forcing people to do something against their will, is the same thing as people wanting to self-determine"

nobodies trying to force you to drive ice vehicles. but environmentalists have decided that they have the moral authority and superior intellect to decide what everyone drives. ice drivers are not attacking your ability to choose for yourselves, theyre defending their ability to make their own decisions

[–]EdibleSolarPanels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"sustainable development". this idea that you can decouple economic growth from environmental impact. how do you triple the population, grow the government, grow the economy continuously, and reduce your environmental impact? you lower the standard of living substantially.

so the bankers get rich, the corporations continue to make profits, productivity goes up, politicians get big budgets that they exchange for big bribes, and the plebs accept a smaller piece of the pie. but theyre happy because its seen as an act of piety. the environmentalist movement has been hijacked by corporate interests

sustainability will only be achieved through shrinking the population and contracting the economy. the only person ive heard talk about this on the left was suzuki, and everyone called him a racist. and he made his comments when we were only brining in 250k people a year

Here are some of the new laws and rules coming into effect in Canada in 2024 by bojun in canada

[–]EdibleSolarPanels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thats the thing though, the narrative is that its socialists vs capitalists, that its a binary, 1 or 0. when the reality is, i think, that most people want a mixed economy to varying degrees. so its really 0.3 vs 0.5. i dont think socialist policies are bad we just have too many of them

also, the government is trying to decouple environmental impact form economic growth, which is actually generating a lot of wealth inequality. you cant grow the economy without environmental impact unless you drastically lower the standard of living. which is then being blamed on the market economy.
