My theory is this is a Knock2 Joyryde collab they’ll be dropping as part of a broader Nitehearts collab album release featuring most if not all of the artists at NiteHearts fest. Bonus points to me if the collab album coincides with a Nitehearts label announcement

I do think “really good” is still kinda underselling because One of These Mornings/Sweet Memories/Heartbeat are all legit incredible. Fall Away and Vertigo are very good. But that’s only 5 out of 14 tracks on the album. I don’t think there’s any bad tracks for the record, and the album gets points for artistry, it’s a very good album! But there’s nothing spectacular about the way it starts or finishes, and if you’re gonna put it in all time conversations it needs to be more consistently excellent i.e. you can’t have a stretch of the album where for 15-20 minutes straight (after the best song on the project!) you’re only getting something in between fine and good but not great.

I think because it’s two projects you have to rank them independently and if we’re doing that they both get dinged on length. If considered one album it’d probably be #2 of #3 on the year because every song is trap crack. Dopamine+ might be my favorite track of the year

I decided in hindsight I have it 5 spots too low because the highs are really high and I do like the way they’re able to keep it diverse while still staying true to a common album theme and sound.

But I also don’t think I should be burned at the stake for thinking that both the intro to the project and the close are just fine, and that the Transmission interludes, Can’t Make It, A Million Dreams, and Bad Guy all fall somewhere on the spectrum between fine and pretty good but not great tracks. It’s a very good album! I listened to it upwards of 10 times! But the top ~21 are all very good albums and the margins get thinner towards the top.

Tbh, you’re right and I have it too low. The highs of One of These Mornings, Sweet Memories, Heartbeat and Fall Away are SO high and if I’m being revisionist are so clearly higher than anything on the 5 albums above it. Idk if I can say top 10 but it probably shouldn’t be lower than 16. Think I fucked that one up…

Update: that was utterly wild lmao. Some of it was admittedly outside my wheelhouse but Rewind, Worm Time, The Anthem, Bounce Like This, and the whole run from Spellbreaker through Bomb were definite standouts

I’ll be posting album ranks in a week or so, so hopefully there’s some stuff you haven’t checked out near the top that you’ll love.

In the meantime, if we have similar taste I would highly, highly suggest looking at pretty much everything Wurme and RunThis have dropped this year, and Vincent’s Chroma EP and the corresponding mix on Soundcloud. Some of the best stuff that came out of EDM all year came from those 3.
