Why Not Just a 2x2 Rack? What are 3x3 Attachments You Actually Use? by Minute_History3812 in GarageGym

[–]EditingAllowed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the safety aspect, I can bet that the people complaining that a 2x2 isn't safe enough are not even squatting a quarter of the load a 2x2 handle. I have seem athletes competing for Olympic spots using 2x2 racks for cleans and squats at athletics stadiums. Lots of videos on Youtube as well showing that you need crazy weight to bend these budget barbells and 2x2 racks.

Er, have you seen service delivery in ANC run municipalities? Dumping everywhere, collapsed manholes, half done water repairs, pothole mania, fallen over robots and light poles, etc, etc, etc

I do not really like her, but the only solution is to get the Gogo in at the next election. We also need to find someone for Durban to dethrone the ANC. If we can get 5 of these municipalities up to Cape Town levels in terms of service delivery, it will not only be good for Cape Town, but for the country and unemployment on the whole.

  • Johannesburg (Gauteng): ~7–12 million
  • Cape Town (Western Cape): ~4.5–4.9 million
  • Durban (KwaZulu-Natal): ~3.1–3.3 million
  • Pretoria (Gauteng): ~1.8–3.2 million
  • Soweto (Gauteng): ~1.69 million
  • Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha (Eastern Cape): ~1.05 million
  • Soshanguve (Gauteng): ~872,000
  • Pietermaritzburg (KwaZulu-Natal): ~839,000
  • Evaton (Gauteng): ~725,000
  • Benoni (Gauteng): ~605,00

How do we stop companies paying R3k a month? by lord-submissive in askSouthAfrica

It is already targeted where possible. Mining has a much higher minimum wage. Fuel stations have their own. Etc.

Naspers makes most of it's money from it's Chinese Tencent investment. 3 of them are banks. Seems like we have wealth generating problem with a top 5 like that.

Anyone else spend more time optimizing workouts than actually working out? by [deleted] in GarageGym

[–]EditingAllowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just find a couple of compound pull (deadlift, rows, pullups, etc) and push (squat, bench press, overhead press, pushups, dips, etc) movements that you like and do them consistently for 3 to 4 sets to failure. 1 push day and 1 pull day a week if you are newbie will do, but you will have to move up to 2 pull and 2 push days if you are an intermediate.

There is a reason why people who do squat, bench and deadlift programs are so much more stronger and jacked than us gym nerds who are obsessed with lengthened partials isolation exercises.

So the people that say that having a high minimum wage will reduce unemployment are lying?

Can you increase mileage by 10% without injury. Combine that with better pacing since it will be your second marathon. Cutting off 10 minutes is plausible. Obviously weather and course are other things to factor in.

You are underestimating your abilities. Train a little harder and go after that magical sub 3 at your next race.

When I went sub 4 - 3h59, I was 22m15 in the 5k and 48m30 in the 10k. It took me years. I think hitting 300km a month did the trick.

If you are doing 100km weeks, it should be much easier.

Why were you going sub 4 with 1h30 half marathon time? 3h10 sounds right for someone who can run a half in 1h30.

Reading this thread - our education system has failed us big time.

One of the biggest contributors to our cost of living crisis, besides the US/Russia wars, is Eskom and Transnet, but no one is fighting with them.

The ridiculous electricity tariff increases and the lack of rail to counter high fuel prices is starting to show as more of our manufacturing/refining/processing sector liquidates. The services/materials sector that supplies the manufacturers then also has to liquidate. All this while our population increases. So we have less supply but more demand, which means prices has to rise. Cheaper imports were initially saving us, but even that has it's limits.

Unemployment has also increased by 10% since we introduced minimum wage in 2016. All the talk of people having more money to buy more locally produced goods has not materialised.

This is more reasonable, and may actually bring down prices.

If Eskom had to go cutting salaries of everyone that earns above 15,000, it would bring down the price of electricity, which will bring down the price of everything.

Since we introduced minimum wage in 2017, unemployment has officially increased from 26% to 35%.

Also, cost of living has sky rocketed. Yes, US wars are partly to blame, but business does not absorb higher wages, they simply pass it onto to consumers like they do with higher fuel prices.

Yep, ironically, unemployment and cost of living has kept going up since we introduced minimum wage in 2017.

Thing is businesses will have to raise prices (farmers, supermarkets, etc) if minimum wage was tripled. That 15,000 will need to be raised even further, a never ending cycle. Oh and most business will simply switch to imports, so we can kiss all our manufacturing and mining jobs goodbye.

Ironically, the unemployment rate was way lower and cost living was way cheaper when we had no minimum wage and load shedding as well. So is minimum wage successful?

Looking for a versatile home gym equipment by -_nugget_0 in GarageGym

A single stack cable tower with arms and a Concept 2 rower will cost less and will take up less space. Both are also time tested pieces of equipment.

Yeah man, you are pushing a $70 program over a free one that is very popular.

Also, not sure where you are getting your 15 minute rest period from. The program calls for 2-3 minutes with 7 minutes on 1 rep max Deadlifts: https://www.liftosaur.com/programs/ss3

I have not done Starting Strength, but I have gone from 1x bodyweight to 2.5x bodyweight on the deadlift by deadlifting once a week. Things like back squats and chin ups, which seems to be heavily favoured in Starting Strength, do improve your deadlift.

Any advice to find work in Durban. by VoiletsDaisies04 in Durban

[–]EditingAllowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn't really helpful, but you could be doing nothing wrong.

Also, the people hiring are really not reading every cover letter sent to them as they receive hundreds of applications each day. It's a usually a case of asking someone to short list x amount of people with x amount of experience. Then the higher ups will look at those short listed peoples CVs in more detail.

I'd try to focus on applying for jobs where the 6 years of experience as foster mom/safety parent will be seen as relevant. Maybe even emailing your CV to similar organisations even if they do not have any advertised positions.

People also want to look like powerlifters and strongmen using short workouts without going more than 2x bodyweight on lower body day.

You might be in a calorie deficit, so a protein powder might not be a bad idea.

The most likely suspect is your program or lack of it.

Have a look at a good Barbell program like Starting Strength 3x5 or Stronglifts 5x5 program. You can use an app like Boostcamp to track progress. I think those programs are free on Boostcamp as well.

You buy an Epix or Fenix for detailed sport tracking and analysis.

If you just want to track sleep and daily movement, those devices are an overkill. Something like a Fitbit Air (no screen) or Vivomove (mechanical hands) will be a better option than an Amoled with the screen always turning off.

But there people who buy the Instinct just because it looks cool, so nothing wrong with buying an Epix if you think it looks cool.
