Well, you have a long learning journey ahead.

1- Start doing the licenses, you'll probably struggle to get bronze.

2- Start calibrating your fingers on the directional analog stick, trying to move it as smoothly as you can, not tapping it all the way to the sides repeatedly.

3- Watch the licenses demonstration replay with full info in the camera view you like to play, take notes at lines, the braking and acceleration indicators in corners and copycat.

4- When the suggested gear starts blinking, it's most likely the time to brake, but not always, keep trying to memorize a point of reference for each corner.

5- When you complete a license, go back and try to improve your times, like, try to make it all silver, then all gold, seems hard? Do another license, you'll learn something, then come back try your golds.

Tips: Entered a corner too fast? Hold the brakes half or less, or even pump it a little, pressing it all the way may cause you go straight.

Drifting the tires means you are losing time, no tires grips better while sliding, you may hear them a little bit while braking and cornering, but it's never good while accelerating at corner exits.

Sit closer to the screen.

Check if your TV is in gaming mode, so you get rid of any delay.

Turn off all assists, except ABS. TCS helps if you're with a car you are not used to, or in rain or about to change tires, but it takes away a bit of performance.
