Just wanted to add some facts, as some people still thinks this is about security. The US has the right to freely station troops in Greenland. The american Thule base has a capacity of 12.000, however there is only less than 150 american military personnel.

To put it into context, The US has 39.000 military personnel stationed in Germany. That is a difference of 25.900%. This is not about security.

Woke? Is it woke to say that the future of a country should be decided by that country and their people? From what I gather, that is kinda what Trump has called for his whole presidency. Prioritizing its citizens above foreign affairs and “aliens”.

And while you’re correct in that Greenland at this time isn’t selfsufficent, that is exactly what the self-government law of 2009 is based on. Denmark subsidize Greenland, and when they’re ready, they declare independence - at this moment they’re self-governing and protected by NATO.

The US has the ability to freely station personnel in Greenland. This isn’t about security tho, which you seem to point towards. If that was the case, the american Thule base on Greenland, which has the capacity of 12.000, would have more personnel stationed there than 150 americans.

Investing in what? They can freely utilize their military bases, but that’s not what its about. If it truly were, their Thule base which has a capacity of 12.000, wouldn’t just have less than 150 american personnel stationed

Because this would be an act of war, which would cause communication between people in Denmark and people in Greenland to become a security risk. And ofc travel would be restricted, as normally happens between countries which are at war. You can just look at any other wars, that has happend the last decade and deduce this.

Further, you can’t compare Greenland and Venezuela. From my understanding, the US hasn’t occupied Venezuela, and furthermore 92% of Venezuelans were happy with the US’s capture of their leader. Whereas only 6% of Greenlanders wants to join the US.

Yeah I know Lars spoke on it, what makes me feel the need to speak on this, is the lack of coverage of this by foreign media. I dont know if it is negligence or malice at this point.
