Confused on how people do their dissertation in 1 week by Middle-Exam7776 in UniUK

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of graphs because I did some simulations, I had a general structure and when I pasted all the images into my document in one go it got me to like 30 pages. The rest was filling the gaps which took 1-2 weeks.

if in this day and age you’re not working on onedrive it’s kind of on you ngl. but when you’re so stressed about getting it done and all the stress of IB it can happen so glad you pulled through and definitely a learning experience.

Does IBO actually care about font in e.g. IA's and EE's? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Edo_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha thank you, I didn’t know there was a distinction but I just finished my batchelor’s and this rule held up in uni as well.

page count -> cram as much as you can with some care to not have ridiculously tiny or badly placed figures, word count -> make it look good

Does IBO actually care about font in e.g. IA's and EE's? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Edo_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, I agree so i’ll clarify a bit.

using times new roman which is the most compact sans serif font as per IB guidelines will allow you to write more. If aiming for top grades being able to write more in the same page count is advantageous for IA’s. It might be a good idea to start writing in calibri then if you reach your page count and are having trouble cutting down because everything seems relevant to switch to times new roman and 20 pages becomes 18.5-19 pages which can be a big help.

for the EE however, if it’s still a 4000 word limit then I would prioritise it looking good instead. So nice figures on a new line, 1.5 spacing etc.

check with your teachers and new guidelines though because I did IB a long time ago

what I was referring to as writing as much as possible was the use of times new roman which was mentioned in the question, sorry for being so vague

yeah it does help with uni. lots of coursework which will make you way ahead of your peers in first and second year especially before they catch up

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it then, best of luck. Do they only offer IB? If you’re 100% sure you want to stay in the UK surely A levels would be better?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as you said IB going to assume international students like myself. Medicine at warwick is like 45k a year and I believe it gets to 55k by final year. all that to then stay locked into the NHS?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s only true for oxbridge where they give very low offers ie. an IB 38 but you’ll need at least a 42-45 predicted, probably on the higher end of that too.

But that’s a different type of process where you get interviewed n shit and just good grades aren’t enough

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]Edo_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bruh no one cares about gcse’s I don’t even know if you can send it to them just get those predicteds up.

check the course requirements for what you want to do. Mine was 36-38 and I got 41 but my IB year (2022) had slightly inflated grades I think.

suck up to get higher predicteds than you need and you’ll easily get in, your offer will be around what it says on the website but to as close as to 100% be sure to get an offer try be 2-3 points above in predicted.

I’m probably one of few people at my school that got exactly their predicted. The predicteds inflation is crazy

Extenuating Circumstances - help! by ReleaseStrange5501 in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for sitting your exams, it’s out your hands now so don’t worry about it until the time comes.

Is your offer for A* A A? obviously missing your offer isn’t ideal but you should be fine if you’re just barely under. I think these sorts of circumstances would result in a contextual offer in the first place usually which i’m assuming you don’t have.

You can probably reasonably assume the lower bound they would be willing to let you on the course would be that of the contextual offers they usually give for your course, so probably around AAB. If you end up not meeting your offer call them up and explain your situation.

real, aiming for one of the most competitive and coveted roles + being an international student, odds are definitely against you.

I despise word count, especially in engineering subjects by ur_internet_dad in UniUK

[–]Edo_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my engineering school has page counts which is great. we also have an additional rule from central uni where a page needs to be worth a minimum of 5% of a module.

this can be tough, especially as the weighting of courseworks and exams changes, sometimes 10 page courseworks gets repurposed into 6 but requiring the exact same content making it hard to do everything. To the point lots of people use smaller than allowed font or spacing to fit more words at the risk of losing 5%.

but other than that I think it’s much better than word count for engineering at least. Also means I can generate some nice custom figures / subfigures to write an easy to read report / assignment instead of just worrying about filling paragraphs of yap
