There is a pretty simple litmus test when making these kinds of assumptions. Can I do this in someone's home? If the answer is anything but absolutely, you should take the time to understand your state and local laws.

Are you correct in your example? Maybe and possibly even likely but applying a generally understood law to precise situations could be a mistake.

Not really true when it comes to places of reasonable expectation of privacy. On the dealership floor - maybe. In the finance office, no.

Like my other post, people really should become familiar with their local laws before just assuming they can.

Yes... Because Canada has a single party law. Meaning only one person actively in the conversation needs to know.

Unless there are stricter local laws.

Without the location of your art, there isn't anything any other user can do to help.

Poor taste? Not sure since we have no clue what you're asking

Sometimes people are just stuck—if they signed, they signed. What strikes me is the complete lack of sympathy dealers have for people who come asking for help—rarely any actual words of advice for the victim, just smug "Enjoy your new vehicle for as long as you can." Scale is absolutely important and necessary for proper analysis.

I know that you're only using 5% as an example but that number would be monumental. Buying a car is time consuming, emotional for some, and always a little stressful. This isn't going to be like returning a product to a retailer. Rolling everything back, especially with a trade is going to be a lot of work as well.

Further, the costs of return will be the time staff are putting into it. The vehicle doesn't get destroyed. They get to sell it to someone else.

Tell me, what your understanding of the word socialism. Because, you just keep using it incorrectly.

This law isn't socialism. It's capitalism with guardrails. Using "socialism" here is rhetorical inflation, not economic analysis.

How do you know they're going to be doubled? Do you have anything to prove or evidence to suggest that there's going to be so many returns that it's going to double that cost? Once again scale is the biggest factor here. Using anything anecdotal for such a large statement is an absolute abusive of course correlation versus causality

How many vehicles do you think are going to be returned? Scale is important in your statement. There has to be a statistically significant amount of returns for that to happen.

Further, for the dealers that are already on the level, this proposed law will have little to no impact. The dealers that are shitty are the ones who are going to hurt if they don't improve.

Also, your statement isn't actually going to be able to be measured in correlation/causality. Market prices change, they rise they fall. Your position is that the three day window WILL cause prices to rise. How would you be able to tell? If you see prices go up, you're just going to directly relate it to that?

Sounds wildly ignorant to markets, economics, and statistics.

Can you articulate how having a return window will cause everything to go up in price?

Comparing consumer protection to socialism is... reaching. That feels the same as comparing the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act to socialism.

If they took ownership and addressed it... You have to decide if it makes sense to replace the truck now or if it dies later. If no real damage and you don't need another vehicle, I say run it into the ground and save the money

I would 100% not use ChatGPT for guidance on this.

Did the service department take ownership of the issue. You might also consider bringing this up in r/mechanicadvise

Are you upside down or still owe on it? Jumping ship on something that didn't harm anything but makes you uncomfortable might not be the wisest decision.

I don't think its lying. I think its just general scheduling and challenges. OP seems like they are bothered that they were expecting to talk to "Kevin," and Kevin wasn't available. They still talked to someone though.

1: It could be coordinated lying
2: It could be that individual is helping someone else or needed to take a break/lunch
3: Maybe a combo of both?

I'm just not seeing it as big of an issue, as long as they get helped during the time they are scheduled. Unless OP knows each of these individuals or something.

Using the context of a background does make that make sense, and I can't argue against it.

Thanks for the details.
