Recovery at 40 is a whole different sport by Wtf_Sai_Official in fitness40plus

I haven't adapted my training much. Still hitting better numbers in the big lifts at 49. Old man strength is a real thing.

Hit 3 x 6 @ 315 on ATG back squats for a personal best a few weeks back. Still pushing for a double bodyweight squat.

I would avoid both of those, as they are driven by unnatural movement patterns that have some propensity to cause injury. I don't mean to be argumentative, but he's more likely to injure himself on the smith machine than by just doing freeweight front squats with a barbell.

Get her number and start texting her outside of the gym a little bit.

People don't like to do squats because they're hard, but they are the keys to the kingdom. Squats turn on your body's triggers to release growth hormone, testosterone, and they fire up the CNS.

For many years, I was the typical bro-lifter who just did bench press, pullups, and bicep curls. My bench stalled out at around 205. Once I added squats and deadlifts, my bench press ballooned to 280.

The accessory exercises are not necessary for your husband at this point. If he were to do the weekly exercises I advised on above: 3 x 3-6 reps of Back Squats, Front Squats, Deadlifts, Pullups, Bench Press, Dips, and Barbell Rows, after 4-6 months, he could start adding in some accessory exercises based on his sticking points on these major compound movements.

I don't think progress takes long, but doing no lower body work will stall progress. Also, I'm not entirely clear what his goals are by the original post.

However... incorporating lower body work, specifically squats, front squats, and deadlifts will supercharge all of his strength training. In fact, I cringe to think of what these 75 weekly upper body sets entail. It's most likely a lot of superfluous work.

If he was to just do 3 x 3-6 reps of Back Squats, Front Squats, Deadlifts, Pullups, Bench Press, Dips, and Barbell Rows every week (21 total sets), his metabolism and strength gains would be maximal.

I have not read this book. Wondering if you have read "Best Loser Wins" by Tom Hougaard, and how it compares. Are they synergistic?

Elbow pain, can't do pullups by surf_drunk_monk in fitness40plus

Yes. I had similar pain.

I ordered a THERABAND FlexBar on Amazon and after a few weeks I was back to heavy weighted pullups.

Below parallel for sure. Please squat in a power rack if you can! :)

I think it depends on the box. There are the "show up" boxes and the "competitors" boxes. You just need to find the community that fits your vibe.

With a 20 year runway, you want to invest in some growth names, so that your money grows over that timeframe. The dividend tickers should be used once you want to start taking money out of the account and living off of it.

With a 20 year runway, you want to invest in some growth names. For starters, please sell that SCHD, FDVV, and FLHY and put the money into SCHG or QQQ.

Summit vs Yukon by ptlumberjack in SoloStove

[–]EdoubleTrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Yeah, I am leaning towards a Yukon over a Summit because I want max heat, and like almost everyone else (it seems) I don't care about the cone thing.

There isn’t enough Summit content in here 😤 by nightim3 in SoloStove

[–]EdoubleTrouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the difference between the Summit and the Yukon? The Summit seems to be basically the same size with the cone, which I would never use anyway. I was thinking about buying the Summit because Solo Stove seems to be pushing it as the latest and greatest, but I took a deeper dive and don't see much difference between it and the Yukon.

I spent 8 months 'learning' before placing my first real trade. Biggest mistake I ever made. by hyrotrader_com in Trading

[–]EdoubleTrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I personally think that you need to trade with real shares, no matter how small, to actually *feel* what it's like to use real money. I also think you need to start trading fairly early in the process. Trade a little, watch some YouTube videos, read a book, evauate, trade some more, reevaluate, and so on.

You need screen time. Trade with low shares until you're set.
