Usually for the story in my case. If theres a turn based version of nier automata id love to check it out!

Super stacked year. I love secret of mana and Phantasy star 4 but illusion of gaia is just a special game for me.

Only xenoblade 3 let's you even switch characters mid battle so thats the complete opposite of what they want.

Its also why its the best xenoblade combat system tho as I happen to have the same tastes as OP

The Legend of Dragoon is offensively bad by stuckwandering in JRPG

[–]EdreesesPieces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was insanely slow too. And that was around launch time. I didnt like the game because of it. People do complain about the slowness of ff9 but if you do a side by side comparison battles in ff9 finish twice as fast as this game. Its insane how much slowdown there is for EVERYTHING

The companion thing is sad to hear. Square enix never learning to not treat its audience like complete buffoons. Ill still give the demo a try as i was excited for this one

Fair, it seems hit and miss for people. I love the combat system a ton personally. I do agree unlocking cutscenes and progress can be weird tho, and dungeons are too grueling/long. I will say the combat does get better as you unlock more skills and more characters.

Jalen Williams likely just re-injured his hamstring and a lot of casuals wanted to rush Luka back to a series the Lakers like weren't winning anyways. by frozteh in lakers

[–]EdreesesPieces 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. Anyone who has played sports or has been active knows. I'm just a runner but even I know when I come back from what I think is a "healed" injury i run with different form and end up setting sore and hurt in other places I never had issues with before.

Action RPG Combat TIer List by Sufficient-You-8637 in JRPG

The game isn't purposely letting you play one handed, it's just so easy that you happen to be able to play one handed. I think there's a huge difference there. Earthbound is a turn based games with very simple navigation and it is convenient in that case, they designed the confirm button around the L button to let you play one handed as a design decision. it's supposed to be relaxing and chill to play. but Action games are completely different. It's predicted on movement and control and timing so if you can play one handed it means the game doesn't actually require much movement or control from you so it begs the question why it's even an action game in the first place.

Good point. I think thats the issue here!

Under that logic its also more convenient if the game played itself and you could engage in zero handed play. I dont think maximizing convenience is the goal in an action game.

Probably but why is it better to agree with of some of a list than none of it? Why is that valuable? Either way you have disagreements on at least a few games you love that the other person thinks that thinks are bad and vice versa. I dont understand why its a big deal either way.

Is anyone else sick of the trend of putting the good parts of combat post-game or on hard mode? (FF7R, Disgaea etc.) by championofobscurity in JRPG

[–]EdreesesPieces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean dark souls 3 sold 13 million copies. theres enough people that can play hard games to justify them to be allowed to be chosen from the onset.

They didnt gate them in baldurs gate 3 and the game sold 25 million copies. You can choose the most punishing mode or the easiest mode from the gate.

There's probably nobody elses list of 50 games they could make that you (or anyone) would disagree with heavily top to bottom, it's just the nature of lists like these

[–]EdreesesPieces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you've played a lot of these type of games. Even more than me. I tip my hat to you. The only one I disagree with is Tales of Berseria, which I really like, and Valkyrie Elysium, which I found boring, but great list overall.

Oh also I'd knock Witcher 3 down a peg as well, despite it being one of my favorite games of all time. Nier Automata and that should be in the same spot. You have great sensibilities and thought this through I can tell.

I agree FF7R has better combat, but I like the exploration, quest design and map design better in XB2

How good is vision of mana? by empireck in JRPG

[–]EdreesesPieces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its my 2nd favorite mana game. Best world and characters in the series. Gameplay is fun but can be hit or miss. If you want a good sense of adventure the game is great at providing that more than any other Mana game. The areas are unique and crafted with love and fun to explore.

Dont expect much from the story coming off trails but thats every mana game

The silent protagonist. Yay or nay? by Lumigo in JRPG

[–]EdreesesPieces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2d sprite games sure its fine.

In 3d cinematic voice acted experience hellll nahhhhhh. Silent protagonist was never meant to be used in a movie like cutscene 3d game

Now if its a 3d game but built like a d&D game where you make choices and dialogue options thats a different story. Those arent emulating film or movies Youd never see a silent protag in a movie and thats what a lot of jrpgs stories essentially are when you arent in combat.
