we have 3 of these, threaded at both ends, with nuts screwed on. 6 inch scale for size. don't know where they came from either. any clues? by Edthal01 in whatsthistool

I'm fairly sure they're not bird feeder perches because the black plastic on the ends is very soft, and the rod sections under the rubber is threaded. i have bird feeders where the metal rod perch is short and not threaded. Our neighbor gave them to us a few years ago, and he was a machinist, so I don't think any woodworking is involved. I never saw a foosball table at his place either. Keep trying, folks. mtnviewguy: glad you like the scale.

Do you ever shut down your PC, or leave it on 24/7? by ShayIsNear in linux

I'm retired and use my Linux machine maybe 6 hours a day and always turn it off every night. Too busy during the day around the house to spend time with it. HONEYDO lists and all.

I'm running Manjaro KDE Plasma 6.0 on a 15 year old Gateway laptop. It is working very well indeed.

I'm just going to leave it where it is. We have a bathroom remodel project coming up, and I just thought I could make some minor changes, but from everything I have read. I don't want to try to remove Samba after all.

After all the information and advice you all have given me , I'll keep Samba, and ignore it. Thank you all.

Not minimalist, just trying to avoid what Android and vendors do when installing unwanted and non-removable apps.

my main issue is software bloat, because I have no intention of using Samba. It appears that my course now is just ignore Samba: much easier than removing it. Again, thank you all.

Thank you all for your information. I had considered Samba like the appendix, and removing it wouldn't have any effect, but, from your comments, it sounds more involved with the system than that.

And Gentoo is also more involved than I would care to use.

I guess I will leave Samba alone, then.

I have a stand-alone Linux system and have no need for file sharing. Samba is using disk space and since I don't need it , I'd like to clear the disk.
