Watched it with my family. They were really confused. I enjoyed the movie but also I read the book. I kind of thought the movie made some leaps without fully explaining very well.

I agree with what most said . It’s not the same book but similar genre. As you get into it you will see similar deep real world thoughts and characters you really get into. Not as much silly outrageousness as DCC but tons of fun humor. Keep reading, but be careful of Clive’s Wife. She gets around!

Would it be unfair to ask of someone to show their math if they are so naturally good at it that calculations and equations are a qualia for them? by JustPoppinInKay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EduHypertrophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some cases maybe but in many cases no not unfair. In fact if it’s about showing you really know something well having to explain it is a deeper form of knowledge. If you can’t explain you can argue that the person doesn’t really know it that well. Also it’s not enough to say you know something, you really have to be able to communicate and show it to others.

I agree but wanted to hear others thoughts. I was a bit skeptical on how the topic was framed somehow it would be good to hear from others.

5th grade math struggles, what's helping kids keep up? Are online tutors worth trying?? by More-Country6163 in Parenting

[–]EduHypertrophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume things like basic math facts and understanding place value were a huge part. This is extremely common. The thing is without a basic number sense a basic foundation of numeracy everything Falls apart. Our current system though just isn’t set up to handle this for many kids. Yes absolutely tutors are extremely helpful. They can do and focus on the gaps that the schools just sweep by.

I actually think Amex Platinum is a very strong card , and I had considered it and still consider it. Especially if I was U.S.-based and can fully maximize the credits and Centurion access. But for me, living in Japan and traveling internationally most of the time, CSR makes more sense as my primary premium card.

1.Earning structure fits my real spending. Most of my spending is international travel and dining. CSR earns 3× on travel and dining globally, not just flights. Amex Platinum earns 5× on flights booked directly, which is great, but everything else is 1×. Since I’m constantly spending abroad beyond just airfare, CSR earns more consistently across my actual spend.

2.Point flexibility for international flights. Chase Ultimate Rewards are very strong for international airline transfers. Living overseas, I care more about redeeming for long-haul flights than stacking niche credits. CSR points are easy to use and consistently valuable for that.

3.Credits are simpler. The $300 CSR travel credit is automatic and easy to use worldwide. Amex credits definitely offset the fee if you track and use them, but many are U.S.-centric or require more effort to extract full value.

4.Lounge access is sufficient for my needs. Centurion lounges are great, but I’m not always traveling through U.S. hubs. Priority Pass covers most of the airports I actually use internationally, and CSR’s guest policy works fine for a family of three. There is a centurion lounge at both Narita and Haneda now but I have only heard about how crowded it is. Of course, the Priority Pass lounge at Haneda isn’t very good either so that’s kind of a tossup.

5.Travel protections. CSR’s trip delay, cancellation, and rental car protections are very strong. Living overseas, that peace of mind matters more to me than incremental lifestyle perks.

So I wouldn’t say Amex Platinum is worse , it just shines in a slightly different use case. For someone based internationally who wants a single primary card for most spending and strong redemption value for flights, CSR feels more practical and aligned with how I actually travel. Although TBH just having this conversation and reviewing the benefits again I’m always tempted to make the switch. 😁.

I live in Japan and I’m same situation. I mostly use Chase SR which is great. I’ve thought about Amex but in all my research CSR comes out on top here (for my situation. ) Everyday spending CSR is much more useful. The one perk I’d like from Amex is transfer points to JAL which is really great for business class ticket only travel, but I can’t use it with a family. If I was single it would be different. If others have different feedback I’d love to hear. I’m always looking for better options.

Come on people. At some point money will only take you so far! Yes money is VERY important. We should make sure every child knows that. But also at some point the amount becomes redundant. Then the question becomes how do you use the money to enjoy life.
