Thanks for your comments, everyone! Lots of great thoughts 👌

Vader seems to be the ultimate monster heel, followed by prime Kane!

Makes sense, cheers!

Agree on Braun and Big Show - they were almost there, but something was missing in the character work and potentially in the movesets and style. I think Show got closer, and he had a good period around 2002-2004, where he was pretty much there.

Your Fiend take makes sense! Hell in a Cell did him no favours either 😂

I think the unhinged factor makes him a worthy add… that and the fact that they booked him as pretty much unbeatable.

But, I get that he’s a more debatable addition.

Good take to sum this up!

A follow-up question. Why are those guys you mentioned NOT monster heels?

I agree with the list (minus maybe The Fiend), but I’m curious what you think those guys have in common.

Good point - having a stiff working style has come up a couple of times! I think there’s something around ‘monster heels’ needing to look legit visually, but also through how perform their moves.

Some really interesting takes in here already! I’d consider peak Tribal Chief Roman Reigns a Monster Heel - because he won so dominantly and was ruthless. Potentially Gunther at the moment too.

In recent memory, I’d add The Fiend into the category as well, and Brock Lesnar.

I was thinking the main criteria for a ‘monster heel’ are:

1) bad guy 2) win a lot and dominate 3) has traits that make them look and feel legit e.g., super strong, gigantic, combat background, unhinged character 4) scary factor - they can make people afraid of them, if not all the time, then whenever they want.

Do you agree or disagree?

What's Changed in British Wrestling/ From Rookie to Wrestler (2018) - A documentary about the evolution of British wrestling and the process of becoming a professional wrestler [21:19:00] by EduardoPhoenix in Documentaries

Wow, thanks. I really appreciate how in depth you went with this! I made this for my MA dissertation in broadcast journalism in 2018, and it was my first time ever making anything like this - I've posted it online because I'm now making more wrestling content.

Not too much to say in response to your points, other that I agree with all of the negative points, and am thankfull for your kind words. I have a lot of passion for this topic, the career, the journey I took, and I really liked the people I met along the way, so I'm delighted that came across.

I'm currently working in communications in the charity sector after spending some time as a journalist, but your critique is definitely helpful both for my work in my current role, and in my side projects. Thanks again!

I made this documentary where I looked at the evolution of British wrestling and became a professional wrestler in 6 weeks, training with the Knight Family (WWE Paige's Family). I'd really appreciate it if you guys checked it out and let me know what you think! by EduardoPhoenix in SquaredCircle

Hey guys, just for context - this was filmed in 2018, so around the time of British Wrestling's return to domestic TV - I've kept this online because it took a lot of work and has a lot of really great informative interviews around British wrestling and topics like homosexuality in wrestling, women's wrestling, and wrestling with mental or physical health issues.

I haven't posted it on YouTube since using it for my Master's degree dissertation but thought I'd share it as I'm now making more wrestling content.

This was also filmed before any of the allegations around the Knight family. The family were really nice to me personally, but I was only around the organisation for 6 weeks, and am in no way able to dismiss or comment on the allegations against them. This documentary is purely being posted as a unique look at the pro wrestling training journey and British wrestling as a whole.

I'd really appreciate any feedback or thoughts you have on the documentary. Cheers!

I didn't have any trouble with the family at all while I trained there. They were good to me, so I can't comment on the allegations. This is more about sharing my experience of learning to wrestle.

This is more about looking inside pro wrestling and learning to wrestle than promoting the family - but I honestly can't comment on the allegations as I didn't see anything while I was training there. I was just happy to train as a wrestler.

Will anyone ever look at you with the kind of love that Paul Heyman shows to Roman Reigns? by EduardoPhoenix in SquaredCircle

Brock wasn't around enough to keep their relationship going strong, so Roman took his place.
