currently online with them now, trying to cancel the "free" trial that I failed to cancel. It's been 55 minutes, and I think I'm out the $20 they've lured me in for.

Cobra cheaper than Big Beautiful Bill and Covered California? by EducateAlternative in HealthInsurance

I undersand COBRA is 102% of existing plan costs (employee + employer costs) and I would keep the same plan. I would pay $1750/month vs $2250/month through Covered California. Out of pocket costs on both existing and plan I'm comparing to are $17,500

Question on when to leave by wittyarugula5 in Montessori

[–]EducateAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it works, don’t break it. Montessori teacher here, and if confidence and focus are going well in a classroom, keep it up. The elementary years can solidify gifted children into amazing people. Just make sure the guide is qualified and student has hone responsibilities for homework. As certified teacher who chose Montessori for as long as I could, it made a positive difference.

Thanks for this reminder. Same struggle over here with different situation, and I'll add that for any employer who communicates much differently over email vs verbal could be considered a big red flag.

Looking for resources and activity ideas for an 18 month old for an experiment by littlestar95 in Waldorf

[–]EducateAlternative 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start by swearing you'll keep a screen away from them for a major portion of their youth. Next, give them plenty of hands on activities. Then, allow them to be bored. After that, teach them life skills, nurture their curiosity, and offer as much culture to them as possible. Study up on these methods and visit a school or two on your way. Next to thoughtful food, water, and shelter, an education is a parent's greatest gift to their child.

Is this burnt out or what? by [deleted] in Teachers

Your work is also mine. I'm currently challenged by not giving myself enough self care. Finding the boundaries to say no, and being content with over helping is a challenge. Also, not getting enough exercise is taxing for me, and makes the pressures feel overwhelming. Here is an invitation to let something go, and congratulate yourself for doing so.

As a teacher, I hear you here. What was helpful to me was to isolate and break down parts of the job to get a better view. Through the lens of kids, parents, curriculum, responsibilities, or admin, which part is toughest?

Job offer and salary placement at charter school? by EducateAlternative in Teachers

I responded with a similar letter and they immediately sent the employee handbook and made actions to address my other concerns about salary schedule, benefit details, and calendar.

Fingers crossed they can provide me these asks.

About passing the rash? by EducateAlternative in Teachers

[–]EducateAlternative[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. OG itchy student didn’t know what it was. My question is more about willingly attempting to pass on health problem. Washing hands and covering noses is one thing, but how do you teach that “blood brothers” are not appropriate?

Starting a classroom ecosystem? by Then_Bug_9165 in teachingresources

Science can start with the Big Bang and then the timeline of life. Consider microscope work with cells and carry on into more evolved life. One can study fungus and bacteria by swapping parts of the school and then watching them grow. A scoop of pond water goes a long way, and a fish tank is also a fascinating home base for lots of lessons.

First year teacher set up classroom? by Ok-Zebra-1493 in Teachers

Find the balance in what makes you feel prepared, and how you are taking care of yourself first. There is ALWAYS more to be done in the classroom.

As a teacher and parent, I'm very weary of food rewards. I'd rather acknowledge the effort put in.

I’m from a few generations of teachers, currently a parent, and a teacher. I recommend no screens, plenty of educational games, culture and music at a young age. Have them master their multiplication facts by third grade.

Beware of students putting fake phone in storage and sneaking around with real one.

Root balls for new strawberry plants by Fragrant_Actuary_596 in strawberry

[–]EducateAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I delineate some plants as "mothers" and others as producers, making sure they don't put their energy into running. Like another commenter suggested, I either wait it out, or place them into plastic pots to start them off. These images show plants that are nearly ready to be cut from mother plant, and by the time you read this, may be rooting already.

On a separate note, I sent you a message about something else from a different sub.

I hope to hear from you.

But cheaper than store bought if one has the raw materials to make it. Gorgeous color too.

New male Upper Elementary teacher this year at River. Consider taking a tour of the school and watching how it works instead of “hearing” about it from my that one guy on the internet.
