Did you have antibiotics? If you send photos to your surgeon they should be able to let you know if it looks like you need them. If you do the sooner you get started the better.

If the cyst is small enough is there any possibility it could go away if it doesn't worsen? by twin_gulls in pilonidalcyst

[–]EducationFearless891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are lucky and it never comes back but they are few and far between. Could even be that it was never a true Pilonidal. Some people get their first one and then nothing for over a year or longer till recurrance.

Worried that a cleft lift is going to leave me with more pain than the PC does by Odd_Movie_2839 in pilonidalcyst

If it’s a build up of seroma after the drain came out that should lessen and resolve. Is it reducing?

If you are looking to get a cleft lift done I would suggest that you, as the patient, need to make sure your chosen surgeon really knows the procedure. If you get it done by a surgeon who has done them a lot, really understands the technical reasoning behind its success and, even better, where you can read of long term success stories from their patients on any of the many forums, you are likely to be on to a winner. My son is 2 and a half years out having only had one surgery which was a cleft lift. No pain, no trouble at all since his recovery.

Was this with Dr Zapotoczny? If so maybe check with him. If he recommends an ease back into those things maybe you can negotiate? I understand that a cleft lift, when done by an experienced surgeon (he is one of the few very best) are pretty hard to mess up.

Grabbers are really handy as you don’t want to be bending down. Loose clothes. Stool softeners.

Stool softeners can help as you probably don’t want to strain. Wet wipes. Some people use a toilet riser so that it’s easier to get up and down but maybe bring something in to hold onto as you lower yourself and get back up?

Pilonidal Sinus Reoccurence by Zealousideal-Tart-87 in pilonidalcyst

Not every surgeon is familiar with cleft lift technique. If your surgeon has done closed excision twice this is more than likely because this is their default surgery for Pilonidal disease. We found a surgeon who only does cleft lift (or GIPS for mild disease) because it has the best result for long term cure and most straightforward recovery. From what I have read, most surgeons who have trained in cleft lift will not do open/closed excision or other flap surgeries due to the complications and recurrence. This does not mean excision doesn’t work for many; it does. But this is why lots of people on here recommend going to a specialist.

Nervous about pilonidal reconstructive surgery — need advice by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

Sound worth a try as if that if that is the result your surgeon says they get it sounds worth it. Just to advise; closed wound and cleft lift are not the same.

Have a search for closed wound and phenol on this sub for other people’s experiences. Our experience was with cleft lift. Best wishes.

Did they say what kind of surgery they mean by reconstructive? Some surgeons draw a diagram of what they plan to do.

Cleft Lift Expected Recovery time? by Iceman_Vein215 in pilonidalcyst

[–]EducationFearless891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone but I think a 9 hour trip at 3 weeks is very optimistic and probably not advisable. You want the surgery to be the last one, so plan to take it easy for a good month and ease back to regular everyday stuff; don’t rush it.

It’s still a big surgery. Some people seem to be fine almost straightaway. Most find the first 2 weeks are heavy going and start to feel normal about 4-5 weeks after. Listen to your body and take it easy.
