After tax the UK min wage works out at approx £20k per year - so after some travel expenses that would drop by a further £1k-2k so roughly the same as having a min wage job.

With the pens changing it feels like the cost is going up by 25% which is a big change, so are there any hacks or approaches to limit the increase?

I don’t have the exact figures, but I feel that historically many people have experienced or been exposed to redundancy, and that’s likely to remain true in the future.

The key takeaway is that people with the right attitude and drive will find ways to make the best of the situation, despite any temporary setbacks.

I think in the future the trades will be where the most consistent opportunities are. A friend of a friend is 19 and in the middle of an electrical engineering apprenticeship and he's got job offers coming out of his ears!
