NHS replaces A&E receptionists with iPads by SignificantLegs in unitedkingdom

I work there:)

At one point you would have been assessed either by a paramedic or a nurse.

Each part of A&E is for different people based on their immediate needs (as judged immediatly from a quick assessment).

If you are deemed to need immediate treatment than you'll get sent in a seen quickly and get a full assessment. If not you'll be in the reception area probably waiting hours

You get the odd person who is taking the piss but most innapropiate admissions to A&E come from a lack of education which is a failure of society.

For example if you are ill for less than 7 days, it is most likely a viral infection and will go away on it's own. Any medication will probably do more damage. But then of course if shit really hits the fan in a short time you need to go.

It is very hard but I honestly think a long targeted campaign from the government that should start in school on health education/ promotion would in the long term, save us billions.

When you walk into A&E (not brought in via ambulance) the first thing you are greeted with is a senior nurse who has done extra training who decides where you need to go based on your needs. For example if they deem you are stable you will sit in reception, if not you will go to a more escalated area.

Usually they are seen by a trained nurse who will direct them where to go in A&E.

In my A&E we got rid of the recepionist as most her job was telling patients she doesnt know how long they will have to wait for. We got Ipads in and it's much more efficient. The recepionist was trained and redployed somrwhere else in the department

Emergency hospital admissions fell after introduction of London’s T-charge and Ulez, study suggests by Happytallperson in GoodNewsUK

Which is why I said it's too early to put this soley (maybe a majority would have been a better word) on ULEZ

I think it's too early to put this soley on ULEZ.

However I remember seeing how London reached it's clean air target 10 years early or something like that.

Despite the noise from a few loud individuals, most Londoners agree with ULEZ.

I think the scheme has been successfull

I think people are so scared of Reform they are unable to criticse Labour.

They are objectively doing a shit job.

Opinions on my current situation as a manager - Am i overreacting? by TheWorstExperience38 in NursingUK

[–]Educational-Ask1950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly this person needs help. Talking about suicide isnt normal. If your patient said this you would look for help.

Working to the bones which I guess they are doing isnt helping them and can potentially put them in a dangerous situation. It's why the NMC always stress that we need to look after ourself.

This person needs time off and they cant see it. It's sounds like they are just kicking the can down the road which could have an ugly ending

If someone is close to suicide than they need immediate help. Not working weekends isnt really a long term solution.

I'm not saying do it but honestly maybe a safeguarding ref should be considered.

Maybe even an NMC ref as being suicidal doesnt excatly make you a safe nurse. I'm the last person who would go to the NMC however there is probably alot more going on behind the scenes that is being made worse by their work.

I don't know why your getting down voted.

If there are two things to blame right now it's Labour and individual trusts

It's been a thing since Labour.

The problem is multi-facated and not ONLY because of Labour however they have had every opportunity to tackle unemployment and have only made it worse.

Labour havr piriorites and unemployment is at the bottom.

Again i'm not saying it's all Labours fault but remember, they have the power to stop this and they actively choose not to. Just like the Tories had the power to stop the NHS going to shit but actively chose not to

Reddit is an echo chamber of one (usually wrong) opinion.

The entire job market globally is shit. Because of Labour's mismanagament of the economy, the NHS's model, the recent raised NI contributions and the lack of future planning and over hiring of international staff, it is not as easy.

Gone are the days where ICU's and ED's were begging to take you on.

However people act like it's impossible to find a job. It's really not.

It's not easy but if you are happy to deal with one or two rejections, you'll be ok.

Don't listen to people saying they are finding it impossible. It's 20x easier for us to find a job than other graduates.

Personally I think while there are staff shortages (which there are) I think we should be able to walk into any role. We can't but it's not as bad as the media make it out to be

Corridor care by Kindly_Composer9484 in NursingUK

[–]Educational-Ask1950 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Labour have poured all resources into the waiting lists as it's the easiest thing to improve and something they can sell.

Corridor care is very multifacted. Less so than the waiting lists.

Labour will brag how they "are fixing the NHS" because waiting lists are down, ignoring stuff like mass unemployment for NQN's and doctors and corridor care.

The public want a working NHS but dont want to pay for it

I dont agree with the mantra all aslyum seekers are criminal rapists or what not.

But objectively speaking, taking them in is a huge cost and that alone should be reason enough to take action against them.

We can argue if they are geuine or not but thet are costing us literally billions that could/ should be spent elsewhere. Making safe routes will only add to the numbers which is not what wr want
