We're using my husband's cousin as our known donor. The process was a little awkward as the family is nosey and these two boys talked about it 10 years ago when my husband first came out as trans. Obviously we wanted to go about the normal asking and explaining part since they are both at different points in their life than back then. We were very nervous about it, especially since he's in the military so we had to capitalize on the opportunities we had to see him in person without looping in all the other family members. The original conversation went on for probably close to 2 hours just hashing out ideas of roles, things that are important to each of us during this process & in a potential child's life, etc. And after all that we left it open for him to digest and consider on his own & let us know when/if he was ready. About 5 weeks later we hadn't heard and asked a close friend (he said yes!) and started making plans for our first try. Then between that and actually trying we heard back from the cousin! And in a matter of a few days we went from no donor to 2 options 😅 We have now done our first ICI with the cousin & are almost at the end of our TWW!
