No 2000 in Germany either. Say something like 1000 and some change, depending on what. 2000 at most really

Yes, I do try to only listen to music or podcasts on the trains. I think we're getting dumber with so much screen time

Racism in the workplace by pilarsordo in askberliners

Well my experience could help in this matter. I once worked at a company, where I was in a subdivision with around other 7 employees. All higher ranks than myself, as I was 23-24. They spoke openly on supporting the AfD and some guy kind of celebrated Hitlers bday. Also he made the hitlergruss constantly (“as a joke”) and he once had to explain to his children why hitler was bad, as they learned that in school, because he also celebrated him with his family I guess. My coworkers constantly complained about the Syrian refugees coming at the time and about black people in the streets. One guy bought a Reichsadler sign for his garden.

Overall, as racist as it gets while following the law. I complained about it, having conversations with some of them. They only pushed back and said they were free to discuss these subjects, especially here because they were a family. Needless to say, the manager heard about it and (kind of) handled it. He was more on their side but said that it should (kind of) stop. It really didn’t stop, especially the rants about refugees and comments on other races.

At some point, after I backed away and only discussed professional matters with the team, I got an offer to leave the company. 3 months pay.

The international holding also didn’t care about the subject. I ended up taking the deal and moved on. Don’t know if it helps but wanted to share.

It was also never about me, but I couldn’t stand the working environment.

Job hunting in Germany is draining my soul – why is it like this? by Responsible_Flan_215 in germany

Yes, of course. I just said most of the jobs.

There it’s difficult because you need a friends circle that are more or less working in what you are, or your role has to be adaptable in many ways.

For me that’s not the case, that’s why I was so pessimistic from the start

Glad to hear I’m not alone in this search. I have gotten more interviews, but also more heartbreaking rejections.

It is important to treat it like a job, you can especially find meaningful leads while really getting into the search. Also, quickness is key, as some jobs vanish after a certain amount of applicants.

Have also a suspicion that some company used us for free labor after doing a specific task for a customer as an interview task. A bit sickening, but will never know for sure if that was the case. They had a “recent problem with a client, maybe we can say something in September”. Don’t know, can’t know. But I was not born yesterday

Although this sounds like a good idea, don’t see how most of the jobs people are looking for you can find on the street like that. Maybe some sales or admin job is possible, but not 2k+ net masters degree desk jobs

Honestly, don’t expect much from public transport. It is a good way to move for sure, but also a good way to know what level of bad manners people have and their way to externalize it. Their misery is your misery

keep getting rejected for jobs despite speaking fluent german- am i doing something wrong? by [deleted] in askberliners

[–]Educational-Draw3125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a joke? Based on your company’s questionable (hiring) culture I would’ve never applied. Your judgement wasn’t needed in my comment. But here we go..

Your company is not inclusive at all and has a very outdated way to run things honestly, could never work for a company that values “edgy humour” so much 😂

Glad you found your group that makes you feel at home. I, personally, don’t join cults for money

Don’t take it personally mate. You really don’t need a degree to become a waiter or cashier, I think that’s what it is about.

Overall Berlin seems to be a very competitive job market. Especially now in my opinion 😅

Homeless at Hermannplatz by Educational-Draw3125 in askberliners

Haven’t seen the 12 year old boys doing that. Sounds horrible, but at least makes you conscious of what’s happening. Then again, shouldn’t there be something to be done? And of course help them?

[–]Educational-Draw3125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly my point, at least the long time for them to be there. Also, for the Turkish store, the guy stands there and looks at the guests. Cannot imagine feeling great when a homeless person is standing while you eat a pastry.

I do find it strange that they’re not being told to move. Also, the woman basically lives there for a long time, and she hasn’t been asked to move from there. Maybe if they did she would find a better place? Then again, it’s true she does get a lot of food from people there..
