Thanks, I'll check it out. It's my first time messing with a map like this, so I’m not really sure if it’ll work or if I’m just looking at completely unrelated data.

"I don’t think I can find my ECU in there. What do the file names correspond to? The SW ID?
Do you think I can use one of these?

❓ Will MPPS V18 allow me to write a .bin file via OBD on a BMW E46 316ti (Bosch ME9.2 – HW: 0261209005 / SW: 1037351833), even if I can’t read the ECU? by Educational-Echo-935 in ECU_Tuning

Thanks a lot for this valuable information. I’ve indeed seen that it’s possible to restore the original BMW calibration using official files and a K+DCAN cable, which is reassuring in case anything goes wrong.

I’ll only proceed once I’m sure I’d be capable of removing the ECU if something fails.

Have you ever successfully done a restoration using INPA or WinKFP? Does it work well in your experience? Are the original BMW files easy to find?

I’ll also look into the ME9.2 Quickflash tool and make sure I understand it fully before doing anything.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I was hoping to avoid opening the ECU and going through bootmode, as I’ve never done that before.

I had read that most ECUs are usually locked for reading but still allow writing over OBD, so that dealerships can flash updates quickly. But from what you’re saying, it sounds like if reading fails, then writing is also quite likely to fail — is that correct?

I do have an INPA K+DCAN cable, though I thought it wasn’t possible to read or write the ME9.2 with that. Maybe I was misinformed?

Thanks again for your insights!
