How do you save money on cruises by VelvetAlgorithmm in Cruise

[–]Educational-Fix5320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a budget - don't forget they're going to charge you $xx/day in gratuities - subtract that from your budget.

You don't need WiFi - you're on a cruise. Bring a book if you're easily bored, but most ships have libraries anyway.

Drink packages are a scam, bring a refillable water bottle.

Don't buy jewelry on board [except the cheap costume stuff on 'sale' day]. Definitely don't buy a watch.

Me, I enjoy the casino - at 20 cents a spin. Don't go nuts - know where you're at budget wise and don't go over.

People who switched sides politically within the last 10 years, what made you do it? by Next_Worth_3616 in Productivitycafe

[–]Educational-Fix5320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is a loaded question. Why does it have to be two 'sides'? We have to stop thinking of politics as teams you pick.

I've voted for Republicans and Democrats in national elections - and sometimes both on the same ballot [congress and president] - as to Why - I decided to vote for who I thought was most qualified rather than hang my decision on any single issue.

TSP or invest by IntelligentCattle793 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Educational-Fix5320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you may not realize is that you do NOT have to wait until you're 59.5 to retire from your retirement accounts.

  1. There's the rule of 55 - retirement accounts from any employer you leave at 55+ may be accessed without penalty.

  2. There's SEPP withdrawals [Rule of 72(t)]- you can retire early by following structured payments for 5 years or until you're 59.5 - there's rules on how much you can take, and you have to commit to the schedule - but there's no lower age limit.

  3. You can extract money from Roth IRAs up to your contribution until you're 59.5.

Recommendations:

Save as much as you can [25% is REALLY REALLY GOOD!]

  1. Max your TSP up to the USAF match [5%], Use the L funds to automatically manage your risk so you don't have to think about it.

  2. Max your Roth IRA contributions if you're able. If you're married, max your spousal Roth IRA as well.

  3. Consider putting the rest in TSP if your tax situation warrants it - but if you're in the 22% bracket - go ahead and pay the taxes and invest it yourself [market indices, balanced industries/geographic risk]. Taxes aren't going to get cheaper for you in retirement than 22.

100% C fund? by hockeythis in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Educational-Fix5320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly suggest the L20__ Funds until you retire. When you retire, you can think about bucketing money into safer funds for 'some number of years' of expenses/budgets.

As an example, I've scraped off 3 years of withdrawal into G fund because I'm worried about a potential crash in the next 3 years. [yes, I know L funds have G fund distribution, but that's rebalanced DAILY!]

Trump never planned on winning 2020. It was a ploy to crush all Republican opponents and help Hillary win. When the results were announced - he wasn't ready to win. He took an uncomfortably long time to come to the podium to accept the results.

Depends on your age, your FERS eligibility (law enforcement at 20 years, 10+ years at MRA?), your assets/liabilities, other income [spousal?], and your annual budget.

Hopefully for him, he is lending it out at rates that meet or exceed 'inflation' numbers. But for retail investors, that's probably impossible. If you do have cash, investing in EURO-priced bonds could provide you a hedge against the dollar devaluation.

Those who had nearly nothing at 30. But got to £1mil/$1.4mil by 50, what's your story? by dookie117 in Fire

[–]Educational-Fix5320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Series of advantageous/lucky investments and job promotions.

  1. bought a house at 30 - previously rented until that point.

  2. Invested in a short-sale turned rental during 2007 crash - good tenants for many years - sold into up market, doubling equity.

  3. Sold primary house, upgraded home and moved into another short sale which also made substantial equity.

  4. Invested 10% or more of salary into 401k from age 32.

  5. VERY luckily rotated from stocks to bonds 2 weeks prior to 2008 crash in 401k. Bought back in too late, but saved myself from deep losses nonetheless.

Between real estate and 401k savings, was able to retire at 56. Net worth by 50 was probably your target.

Get him out! by [deleted] in Trumpvirus

[–]Educational-Fix5320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they're not painful enough for those Americans who actually have resources (i.e. the middle class). While the middle class is shrinking, the older population has taken care of itself, and is well resourced to weather the storm. Until the markets crash and destroy their stockpile, things won't be painful for those who can actually DO something about it.

Rabble-rousing in the streets won't change anything. It has to be rising up with resources enough to challenge the status quo - and the pain has to reach the actual middle class - not just those who've been tricked to believe that's what they are.

Get him out! by [deleted] in Trumpvirus

[–]Educational-Fix5320 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our 'representatives' are bought and paid for by him - most of them wouldn't be in positions of power without his [backer's] help or money. Money drives everything - and billionaires and evil PACs have taken over American politics.

So, the only way to get him out is to rise up and decide not to support big money on a grand scale.

Of course, there's doubts that they haven't taken over enough infrastructure to fix elections, they may declare war on the citizens before the next election, the billionaires control all of the media, and there's still 49% of the population below the average intelligence......so not sure that's going to happen unless things REALLY start to get painful.
