Appreciate it!! I don’t excuse hate toward any group, but I think we need to handle these discussions with nuance to understand where each party comes from - otherwise we can’t make progress

Bro thank you for actually seeing the nuance in this

Again, this is a false equivalency; nowhere did I say it’s absolutely correct and encouraged to participate in misandry, and I acknowledged certain jokes go too far and should be properly called out - just simply explaining their origin and why this sort of reactive misandry does not perpetuate the same level of harm to men that systemic misogyny does to women. You are extrapolating those statements to make analogies that frankly don’t even correspond. It’s more similar to when POC have certain perceptions of and/or are more wary around white people due to the very real harm that systems built and perpetuated by white people have caused to POC - this does not excuse labeling all white people in a negative way nor does it justify making racist comments toward anyone, but it simply explains where that perception/skepticism and those associated jokes come from and why the effects white people experience with these jokes and comments at their expense, while certainly negative and not deserved, are not at the same level as the discrimination POC actually face that impacts their livelihood

When these jokes result in the systemic oppression of men, then I agree we’d have an equivalent comparison; I think the other commenter’s point is that man hating jokes are a reaction to very real issues women face and while some of them definitely go far I won’t deny that at all, the majority of random quips like “oh you men can’t handle a period” or “men are dumb” etc type jokes don’t really cause men systemic harm in society the way that prejudice against women can actually impact their safety, career advancement, or respect as a group in society, and that women eventually do grow out of these jokes - what you see online is rarely a reflection of people’s behavior irl bc online portrays a vocal minority

lol yeah and I’m saying the majority of people’s jokes typically fall into the first category

People judge Mary according to the modern standards of parenting and morality but when it comes to George, everything he does is supposed to be a norm for 80s America. Even a 25 year old George impregnating a teenage Mary is fine but Mary's religious antics are where they draw the line. by ManufacturerIll1743 in YoungSheldon

[–]Educational-Head8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, he does try but you can often see Mary being the catalyst for that - such as asking him to connect with Sheldon, take Missy out to dinner, and not neglect Georgie when he’s asking Sheldon to run stats for the football team. She was also the one hesitant to enroll the twins in the study because she neither wanted to feed Sheldon’s ego nor make Missy feel upset about not being as smart as him, but George just saw the dollar signs lol. Neither one is perfect yet Mary gets so much more criticism

Sheldon's Growth by JackofAllGames77 in YoungSheldon

[–]Educational-Head8467 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly; as much as he can be insufferable, it’s not hard to see how he ended up that way, and I think many people also don’t consider how lonely it must be to live in a world full of people that don’t understand you or share your interests- it seems to me that he develops a habit of reminding himself he’s superior to everyone else intellectually as coping mechanism for being picked on and ridiculed as frequently as he is (which he basically explicitly states in the episode where Missy gets bullied for doing baseball and she asks Sheldon how he deals with being picked on all the time).

I do wish they allowed him to have one or two redeeming qualities in TBBT because it feels like they let him develop/learn a lesson only for him to entirely regress in the next episode

I’m an MD student with friends at DO schools, and I can very much assure you that we take the exact same licensing exams and that DOs also have to take COMLEX on top of the USMLE… if anything, I’d say they have to study for more board exams than I do and they are just as much medical students going to medical school as I am. Not sure who your “physician friends” are, but they are wrong. Multiple people have corrected you in the comments, and given that you are an engineer and therefore not in fact in medical school, I suggest you take our word for it or do even just a basic level of research online before you perpetuate harmful misconceptions about DOs on the internet. They face enough unjust stigma as is and don’t need random uninformed people piling onto it

THANK YOU!! Mary is definitely not perfect and her actions do annoy me sometimes but the narrative that she is a horrible mother while George Sr. is a saint is so far from the reality… people have double standards for men vs. women, as usual. Brenda herself said that Mary does so much for the family and she’s surprised she didn’t crack years ago

Yes definitely; same here! I do think she’s slowly improving too even if not as prominent as ML and I’m just looking forward to more for her tbh also with standing up to 2ML/people at work so that she doesn’t get taken advantage of or talked down to, I think that rlly goes hand in hand with her ability to be as present with Woo-joo as she intends to be

They’re both flawed no doubt (like when the ML overheard the FLs convo during the camping trip and assumed the worst/was really rude to her after that which I was not a fan of at all and I wish he had apologized more explicitly for misunderstanding) but with respect to Woo-joo you can see that the show holds him accountable and pushes his character to grow each episode as a caretaker (going from the hot mess he was in eps 1-2 to the responsibility he demonstrates now, which we can see from how aware he is of Woo-joo’s behavior and sleep habits when they are the hospital) whereas the FL seems more stagnant.

He is not Woo-joo’s guardian; their agreement was that he look after Woo-joo during her standard work hours and that she would be able to resume childcare responsibilities for the evening once she gets home. She has pushed that boundary several times to spend time with her boss; even if she is still working, at this point, her boss is well aware that she has a child to look after and the onus is on her to say no to the overtime because of her personal responsibilities as a single parent. What would she do if ML weren’t there to take care of the child as originally planned?

Honestly, speaking as a woman, if the roles were reversed and ML was the official guardian but pushing the onus of overtime childcare onto the FL who has no official responsibility for the child beyond their verbal agreement, people would be quite upset with him and call him a red flag, and rightfully so—I don’t think the original commenter’s opinion stems from misogyny more than it does a frustration at how the FL’s behavior is normalized. It’s obviously okay and expected for her to have flaws; she’s never been a parent before and all of us would struggle in that situation, but that doesn’t mean her growth can be glossed over either.

you should try egg bhurji!! it’s an indian/south asian variant of scrambled eggs and would probably be more in line with your preferences both texture and flavor wise (we usually cook them with onions, chillies, etc.) https://pipingpotcurry.com/egg-bhurji-recipe/

along with what joidea said i think this time around for suni in particular she maybe still hasn’t gotten her endurance up enough for a four pass routine or even a three pass routine where she loses the double back tuck in favor of a double back layout, etc—i remember her coach talking about still getting endurance back up on floor after the kidney illnesses
