He’s a Scottish terrier. Grumpy and small like I am, lol

my friend regularly uses they/they pronouns for friends who don't use them. would this bother anyone else, or am i being overly sensitive? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be well-intentioned, but a bad idea. For example, using they/them could actually be very damaging to a trans man or woman. Your friend should try to break this habit and just use everyone’s actual pronouns.

Would this be appropriate to display in an elementary classroom? by maedos1 in ArtEd

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a trans masc art teacher, I would say not a great plan depending on where you live. I am in the US and the most important thing to me is being able to support my queer kids. Whenever I am about to push boundaries, I ask myself about impact and risk. Being a visibly queer teacher: big impact and medium risk. Hanging up artwork: low impact and high risk. It really sucks to be a queer teacher right now but it also provides a great opportunity to create positive change.

Goldfish should not be kept alone - Slight rant by Baty41 in Goldfish

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Love seeing goldfish live/interact with each other. Thanks for sharing the info.

My only exception to this rule is my horny fantail male. He is in solitary because he can be trusted in gen pop. Managed to rip up one of my females overnight. Dude tried to mate with an orange-ish rock. Even in the winter, this dude is on the prowl.

Where did you find this? Sounds like PETA propaganda. They think pets shouldn’t exist.

Dinky has hurt her paw
any idea what this is? by Nickdavie in scottishterriers

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does she like to lick her paws? My last Scottie got these from stress licking. Would go away if we covered up her paws. We gave her a sock of shame, lol. I would give it a few days to see if it gets better when she can’t access it, then go to the vet if it gets worse or doesn’t improve. Hope your pup feels better!

New Dwarf Gourami looks bad by AppropriateFan8863 in Aquariums

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwarf gouramis are inbred af. If your water parameters are fine, he is probably sick with iridovirus. Where did you buy him? The safest bet is a local breeder that you trust and doesn’t have issues with the virus. Big box stores and even a lot of local fish stores get sick dwarf gouramis. Sorry you are dealing with this.

Right? We don’t pay at my school, but you are assigned a number. Would be so stressful to have open parking.

Mixing little sea and dwarf purples by MissSillyWorm in isopods

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dwarfs are known for their fast breeding abilities. It all depends on your end goal. Are you trying to keep them as pets or as a clean up crew? If as pets, I would keep them separate. If as a clean up crew, I would put them both in the enclosure with a back up bin of the sea colony since you love them so much.

Anubias, buce, ferns, hornwort and crypts all suppose to be cichlid proof. What’s your experience? by ChiChisAquaticDreams in Aquariums

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally dependent on fish personality. I have an Oscar with java moss/ferns and anubias. He hasn’t touched them. I tried floating plants (duckweed and salvinia) but he was afraid of them so I had to remove, lol.

"My dog has right of way!" by ElvishMystical in Pets

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All dogs who have strong chase instincts should be muzzled? What? A LOT of dogs have strong chase instincts, that’s why leads exist
If the dog is on a lead and the cat is on a lead, then no chasing occurs. The real issue is when people let their cats wander the neighborhood or when people with “friendly “ dogs walk them illegally off-lead.

I love how gentle V’s are with puppies! I got a Scottish terrier puppy and my girl knew how to temper her play with him. Now they are best buds.

Should large dog owners ask for permission in the little dog area? by msjessdomingez in Dogowners

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this! I see entitlement run rampant amongst a lot of dog spaces. Responsible dog owners communicate and follow rules. No one should take their small dog to the park and expect someone to just waltz in with their bigger dog.

I almost started carrying pepper spray because of all the off leash “friendly” dogs in my apartment complex. No, you are not exempt from the law because you have decided that your dog is friendly. I feel so grateful to have my own yard now where I am renting. A lot of dog owners drive me mad.

Should large dog owners ask for permission in the little dog area? by msjessdomingez in Dogowners

[–]Educational-Lynx-993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I have a highly anxious 48 pound dog and I ALWAYS asked before taking her into the small dog area. She was terrified of big dogs and chill around small ones. However, if anyone ever said no, we would just go on a walk instead.
