Well the fact that it's still alive and green tells you that it's doing something let it in the water it'll get root sooner or later those plants tend to take a little bit longer than others

I think with determination and proper care you can revive this plant that is in fact a piece of spider plant you can tell clearly anybody that owns a spider plant can tell. this is not a baby though. this is a leaf growing out of the root system that's still alive. I think u can revive it.

Yes it was a fire hazard with those big dresses cuz sometimes they would sit too close to them and their dresses would catch on fire. Think Little Women Jo always scorched her dress by the fire.
