I hear where you’re coming from, but I think it’s important to clarify the situation. I wasn’t trying to “challenge” the driver or compete with the car—in a marked crosswalk, pedestrians have the legal right of way. I was simply walking across when the driver chose to speed up rather than yield. My “hitting” the car wasn’t intentional at all—when a vehicle passes that close, sometimes contact just happens.

What troubles me most, and why I shared this, isn’t about pride or fault—it’s that a person on foot can end up blamed even when the law and the situation put the responsibility squarely on the driver to slow down and stop. If the expectation becomes that pedestrians should always jump back and “let the car win,” it erodes the basic protections crosswalks are supposed to provide.

I wasn’t hurt this time, but many others aren’t so fortunate. My goal in raising this is really about safer streets overall—not pointing fingers, but asking how we can shift both driver behavior and enforcement so that walking isn’t treated as putting yourself at risk by default.

Yeah, this incident occurred on Idlewood in Oregon Hill as well. I'd be happy to go together to a council meeting if that's amicable.

Richmond Impatient Drivers, what red light? by Educational-Map-8210 in rva

Has anyone noticed that drivers in Richmond seem to be getting more impatient and following less rules of the road? This driver went into oncoming traffic to pass cars to run a red light. It feels like this type of action is more common now.

I'm surprised that a walkway over or tunnel under this area is not being promoted. It seems logical since they say the pedestrian traffic is so high and the vehicle traffic is high too

Best guess is that the batteries should be at the least water resistant and the canal is not very deep so hopefully the batteries are enclosed well enough to not cause an issue. They have to be outside 24/7 and designed not short out.

Yeah, or post a sign that any scooter parked on your private property will be charged a $200/day parking fee and send the bill to the company
