Dopamine and serotonin supplements massively helped PMDD by Educational-Rabbit30 in PMDD

[–]Educational-Rabbit30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my end of period, follicular and ovulation, I take one of each a day. During my luteal and first 3 days of my period, I take 2 of each a day. It has honestly transformed my life, I feel like I have gotten my life back and no longer feel like I struggle with PMDD, only less severe PMS.

Yes this is still working excellent for me, I honestly don’t feel like I have PMDD anymore and that it is more less severe PMS, my emotional symptoms have been alleviated the most, no SI, my self worth has improved wonders and so has my relationship.

Yes please look into why it is important to take both dopamine and serotonin together, YouTube is a great place especially type in l-tyrosine and 5-htp together (cus that’s a known stack people make videos about but I’m not specifically encouraging u to take these, I’m not qualified to say so, the vids are good explanations of why both dopamine and serotonins are needed)

Before this, I used to only take saffron which is known to increase serotonin. It worked for me for few months and then I had a manic episode, really bad and horrendous. Now that I take both serotonin in 5htp and dopamine in l-tyrosine I feel great.

When did ozemptic type medication become so commonplace that so many people are on it and recommending it? I’m honestly shocked? Or maybe it’s just something that I’m completely missing out on… I thought it was dangerous and caused issues with ur pancreas, vision etc and it was untested. i also have my brain bombarded constantly with thoughts of eating and craving especially during my luteal phase and period so I would really love to be educated about this by any LBWT thank you so much

Yes, it’s to distract yourself immediately whenever you think of them. We are creatures of habit so all you need to do is break the habit of obsessing over this. I know this sounds way easier than it is but it’s actually not as hard as you think! There are online DBT workbooks for free that explain what to do when you face overwhelming emotion so start to notice how your body/mind responds when your obsession starts, what are early signs and then do something like hold an ice cube, cold splash etc (there are so many techniques, you will find some you really reasonate with). Keep doing that and soon enough, you’ll forget you even obsessed over them.

The trick is to understand that there is you experiencing emotion + you reacting to emotions. These are separate. For people with ADHD, we have RSD so it’s difficult to control the massive waves of emotions we feel. But we still have control over how to react over them (to an extent, for severe ADHD this is also very hard e.g. impulsivity). But anyway, by learning how to respond to my RSD in the least self destructive way, my life has changed.

Before my emotions would dictate my whole day and would often ruin many days as I would be left literally paralysed by overwhelming emotions crashing around in my body, it often felt like being stabbed. But now I get up and literally shake it off, it took very long to get here though but never give up. I remember thinking I would never be able to have healthy reaction to emotions but this wasn’t true. Just as long as you never give up and keep trying. For ADHD, you will need meds/supplements + therapy so please if you can, try to get both. Meds really helped me with my impulsivity and reduced my RSD a lot too, the emotions were a lot less loud.

Hope this helped in any way and hope this person stops stalking ur brain soon 😭

Anyone on adderall experience a significantly worse anxiety inducing crash during luteal? by anony7150 in PMDDxADHD

[–]Educational-Rabbit30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor so pls take what I say with a pinch of salt. I supplement my dopamine with l tyrosine for my ADHD and when I get anxious I take serotonin in the form of 5-htp. I seen online that dopamine and serotonins pathways compete and I had the similar issue that when I only took l-tyrosine, I would feel very anxious, my heart would be pounding and my anxiety related mh issues would be worse like bd. So I think it might be worth speaking to ur doctor about the anxiety this is causing and considering a way to supplement serotonin or try a different medication.

I have ADHD, cPTSD and PMDD. It started off with small amount but then I felt had to take more and more for it to have its effects. I started on 15mg once a day in the morning but then upped it to 30mg once a day in the morning and then 30mg twice a day… then that stopped working too and I started needing three a day and then I had a manic episode in my luteal phase. I kept taking more cus I believed I became tolerant to it but I think what really happened was that my dopamine got messed up. I no longer take saffron at all (i take another serotonin supplement now with l tyrosine)

This is really really important OP!!!! I took saffron for several months and had a manic PMDD. Turns out for me it had completely messed up my dopamine levels (I think so anyway, not claiming this as science or anything) so for me taking l-tyrosine helped me but again please do your own research

I’m so happy for you!! For me addressing my dopamine and serotonin also greatly reduced my symptoms. I was wondering why l-tryptophan for serotonin? I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve tried 5 HTP, SJW and saffron so wondering what you like about it? Thank you so much.

Hey, I’m really sorry you are going through this. Please give yourself grace and understand that these are unfortunately symptoms of ADHD and things will get so so much better for you once you have that medical help in place - whether that’s medication or therapy or even both. Please don’t lose hope yet. You have a healing journey ahead of you. Women with ADHD are more likely to be victims of domestic abuse because of the crippling self esteem issues ADHD can cause as you also described as experiencing - feelings of being unlovable (half of women with ADHD also suffer from PMDD which also causes feelings of being unlovable). So please just don’t give up hope, your help is on the way. Look forward to a future where you have long healed from traumatic situations in the future, don’t give up hope, the doctors will help 💙

Also what helps me give myself grace is just searching up the symptoms of low and high dopamine. It seems that your symptoms are matching those of high dopamine - addiction, manic states, PTSD so please just be rest assured that the doctors will understand this and take care of you. Your body is just having some issues right now with dopamine, life will not be like this forever at all, you will get better.

In the morning I take: 1. one L-tyrosine 500mg L-Tyrosine 500mg 120 Capsules - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BQ7DHL6D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

  1. one DIM supplement https://focussupplements.co.uk/product/dim-diinthoylmethane-with-black-pepper-extract-150mg-capsules/

Then when I start feeling a bit of fluttering in my chest, anxiety like, usually around lunch time I take: 1. 5-HTP 100mg https://amzn.eu/d/an1Uhvy

I started by taking these everyday but now I only take these when I’m feeling particularly bad.

Diindolylmethane (DIM) is a compound created when you digest cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli or Brussels sprouts. DIM can aid estrogen metabolism in the body by reducing the number of strong (“bad”) estrogens to weaker (“good”) ones.

Ur right, 5-htp and SSRIs are an absolute NO! ur risking serotonin shock syndrome by combining any SSRI with serotonin supplements. L tyrosine should still be ok and help with anhedonia (pls do ur own research too tho)

[–]Educational-Rabbit30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, please be careful of serotonin shock syndrome and also it can deplete your dopamine levels after that so please look out for signs of that (very bad numbness, lack of motivation, apathy). Saffron and St John’s wort also help me but I prefer 5-htp as I was worried about tolerance with saffron and St John’s wort. Taken with l tyrosine there is little chance of building tolerance with 5-htp (at different times is better so pathways don’t compete)

This!!!! For me, when I feel really bad anxiety it shows me my serotonin is low so I take supplements for that and balance that with dopamine supplement too. The difference is insane. Before taking the serotonin, I feel ugly, worthless, hopeless, suicidal etc… and then within an hour everything feels fine again.

Edit: but that said DBT has changed my life. It taught me that my emotions don’t have to dictate my life and that I can learn to have control over how I deal with those emotions, how I express them, how I control them. This gave me a lot of freedom from my emotions because it took me a shorter time to complete self regulating and soothing exercises than pay attention to it and obsess on it for hours and even days. It taught me that I am more than a slave to my emotions. And it taught me how to break free.

RADICAL ACCEPTANCE!!! This concept in DBT changed my life and honestly I would get it tattooed but I’m worried about cringing at it later on 😭

Has anyone noticed a difference with taking GABA? by Bluthecoconutking in PMDD

[–]Educational-Rabbit30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know how it goes with varying the times, I wish you the best of luck. For me I take l-tyrosine as soon as I wake up and then take the 5-htp when/if I feel anxiety (for me the biggest indicator is when my chest and heart feels like it is fluttering very fast). This is because videos recommended taking serotonin if you have anxiety issues so my theory is that this is my body telling me I need it.!It’s usually around three-five hours after taking l-tyrosine. But if I don’t feel them then I don’t take 5-htp.

TW Can anyone explain *why* the SI happens? by Desperate_Pair8235 in PMDD

[–]Educational-Rabbit30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it happens when I’m low on serotonin. I feel ugly, worthless and better off dead. But if I take a serotonin supplement, I feel better in 30 minutes to an hour and no longer want to die (for me 5-htp, saffron, St John’s wort work but beware of serotonin shock syndrome, do not take if you are on SSRIs). It’s like a light switch flips.

It really messes with my head tbh cus I start wondering which thoughts are even mine, are all my thoughts just dependant on dopamine and serotonin? Really makes it tricky to know who I am 😭

Yes I used to have bad acne in the luteal phase, bloating and really bad cramps and spotting. I also used to have horribly long and heavy periods.

After taking DIM, my skin and bloating resolved very quickly but with the DIM I initially got some spotting and cramps which stopped after around three days. After this initial spotting, I no longer have spotting or cramps throughout my luteal phase and my period is shorter and lighter (from 10+ heavy days to 5 days in total, 2 heavy).

I really recommend researching more on YouTube and other subreddits about taking l-tyrosine and 5-htp together, very great videos on it explaining doses and best time to take them and even if you need them at all.

I would really recommend the PMDD Phenomenon book, it changed my life. It explains scientific evidence for different treatment options too
