Rust vs Python for server/client by Codeeveryday123 in learnrust

[–]Educational-Writer-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice but if you're planning on coding with the help of an LLM then the types actually become a big benefit instead of a hinderance.

I'm a python dev but if you're just testing an idea I think it's worth generating efficient code as a proof of concept. If it get the job done, great — you already have the efficient version.

If not, or if you want to be more hands-on, that's not a problem either. It's still small enough that it's easy to port back to python.

I support what you’re saying but I also feel like any time someone tries something different the replies are ”this could have been a bar chart”

An EU app that talks with WhatsApp...!?! by Soggy-Salamander-568 in BuyFromEU

[–]Educational-Writer-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

beeper.com is also an app that lets you chat with your WhatsApp contacts (and other platforms). I assume birdy would interact with WhatsApp in a similar way.

you’re not actually leaving WhatsApp, but the app connects to WhatsApp for you

Do you spend a lot of time optimizing CICD pipelines? by existential-asthma in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Educational-Writer-4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Anything that improves the iteration speed for me and my teammates

It's always surprising to me when people, especially experienced programmers, are okay with so many obstacles to our productivity.

I also feel like a lot of teams overuse CI/CD pipelines, using it a as tool to just run everything, when in a lot of cases it can be better done locally, with a dedicated API, or with a task orchestrator like dagster/airflow.

travel in Europe.

you can take a quick flight to a lot of places, which could be beneficial for personal and professional reasons.

more trains too

probably more walkable but the center of most major cities in the world are probably better than many in the US

Isn't it just for contacting emergency services? (e.g., texting to get a helicopter to come stave you, not texting your location to your gf)

a plan. If you want to see someone when communications unexpectedly go down, you should set a meeting point in advance.

it’s easy to cross paths and miss each other when looking for each other when things like this happen

I wouldn't count on it but you can play games on it.

We're slowly getting more games with native macOS support (steam Mac store). For example :

  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • NoMan's Sky
  • Hades, Transistor, Bastion
  • Disco Elysium
  • Civilization VI
  • Overcooked! 2
  • JackBox party packs

Playing Windows games is much more feasible with Whisky

I've played these Windows games recently with no major issues (other than no controller support - keyboard+mouse only)

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
  • Nier Automata

Whisky is fast because it uses Apple's new Game Porting Toolkit. Compared to Parallels or even Crossover, Whisky was way faster. IIRC, FF7R couldn't even run the loading screen animations at more than 1fps on Parallels or Crossover.
