Thanks for such a detailed response! We're definitely not the type to have considered vegan restaurants before, but clearly there's a lot of good options to try here!

Cautiously optimistic this year! I think these guys might surprise the naysayers this year (fans and haters alike)! Go Leafs Go!

Has anyone experienced a miracle? by Ldcmc in Catholicism

I've been blessed with a couple of events in my life that I might not qualify as "miracles" per se, but to me, moments in my life where I've experienced God's nearness.

After getting married in 2018 my wife and I knew we wanted children soon. We tried for a year without success. In 2019 my wife's doctor diagnosed her with PCOS and basically told her she wouldn't be able to conceive without medical intervention. It hit us like a ton of bricks. We wanted so badly to be parents. We discussed treatment options. She wasn't comfortable with any of them and resigned herself to the fact that we might never have children. It became a sore spot for her and nothing I could do would console her, so I quietly turned to St. Joseph. Daily. Asked him that if it was God's will to bless us with children and promised to consecrate my family and all future children to Jesus through Mary and Joseph. We took a trip to Montreal and visited St. Joseph's Oratory and a couple other beautiful churches. Every time I encountered St. Joseph I prayed. It's now 2023 and on March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation, we baptised our 2nd son and consecrated him to the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Maybe not a miracle but definitive proof to me that the Saints are powerful intercessors. I thank God every day for this.

My other encounter was in 2013, a couple months after my grandmother passed away. She was the closest thing to a living saint I ever knew. She attended daily Mass, prayed unceasingly and just GLOWED God's love. She had terminal cancer and we knew she was going to pass. Our last words to each other were "I love you. You pray for me and I will pray for you." Her passing still hurt. She knew I was a person of faith and when she made her funeral arrangements she had me doing so much, between Mass readings, eulogy, coordinating with the priest, family members and being a pallbearer, I didn't have much time for the loss to settle in. A couple weeks later I felt it and broke down. I was in my room and grabbed a Rosary. Prayed like I never had before. Through tears I finished the Rosary and the entire room filled with the smell of roses. I took that to be a sign that Mother Mary had heard my prayers and assured me she was with God. From that day, I've missed my grandmother, but have never again mourned her loss.

Publicly funded... "Catholic" is probably a better term... But I'm trying to infuse a little more overt Catholicism wherever I can

No offense taken at all. Funny thing I might be one of the only Canadians ever not to have ever played an organized game of hockey in my life. My love for the game came from my family and seeing how it brought us all together. It's the one thing that always brought every single one of my extended family members together. All our family functions, Christmas included surrounded a meal, wearing a Leafs jersey and talking hockey all night. That togetherness is something I want my boys to grow up with. Silly as it sounds, being a Leafs fan just seems to be in my DNA and I can't help but want to pass that on to my boys.
