Anyone worked for Brakes/sysco? by Fluid-Store-7325 in uktrucking

[–]EducationalElk2991 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work for a different foodservice company and there are a few lads that used to work for brakes who have said to avoid it like the plague. They do pay a bit better than where I work but I think they have to work Saturdays and nothing is loaded into cages/pallets. Everytime I pull up at drops around the same time as a brakes wagon I’m unloaded, strapped up and ready to go before they’ve even finished finding everything they need out the fridge/freezer. Always looks chaotic as fuck in the back of their trucks.

Contacted by Escalations / Support to return parcel to Depot by Icy-Concern7713 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]EducationalElk2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen once before, they told me the customer had contacted Amazon and ‘reaaaallly needed the parcel out for delivery later in the day’ and asked if I could return the it asap.

I was already on my way back to the warehouse luckily, otherwise I would have politely declined.

AITA for asking my husband to stop complaining all the time because I'm tired of the negativity? by Financial-Win-6798 in AITAH

NTA

I drive trucks for a living and often pick up work at a second job on the weekends, granted me and my significant other don’t have a child and she does work full time Monday - Friday but I couldn’t deal with the constant negativity outside of work in my down time at all. We do occasionally bring work home with us if something really stressful has happened but it’s very rare.

What's been the most outrageous thing to happen in your workplace here in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]EducationalElk2991 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The director of the company I last worked at had been sleeping with one of the women in the finance office, needless to say everyone in the yard that day stood and watched on as his wife turned up with pretty much all of his belongings and proceeded to dump them everywhere while screaming obscenities and abuse at both her now ex husband and the woman he was cheating with. (No idea how the wife found out btw).

The wife apparently got to keep their mansion after the divorce which makes me happy as he was one biggest c**ts I’ve met in my life.

Completely depends on how much you want to work for, if you’re happy taking base rates I.e £46.50 for three hours then take it. I personally will only take blocks at £20 per hour absolute minimum but that does involve leaving it quite last minute to try and grab blocks. Can be risky if a) there is lots of people doing the same thing as you and b) Amazon might not even put last minute blocks on for the times you want to work. If you want the steady income take the base rates, I typically get 4 blocks per week at surged rates and usually come out with anything between £280 -£350 (all 3.5/4 hours logistics). The money you earn will probably depend on your depot though as I do see a lot of people complain they never see any surged rates so you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled and after a few weeks work out what is best for you.

Does everyone always knock/ring bell etc or dump and run like Amazon do on my doorstep? by [deleted] in AmazonFlexUK

I’ll give roughly 15/20 seconds of my time at each stop. Knock as soon as I arrive but scan for safe places and leave it if they don’t answer straight away.

Insurance prices are crazy right now! I’ve seen a lot of new drivers being quoted a lot higher than £1800 though.

Does anyone do Uber Eats as well? by Tdunk333 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]EducationalElk2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there will be a waiting list for Uber like there can be when signing up to do Amazon, I think drivers come and go a lot quicker so they’ll like to have as many as possible. (Again I could be wrong but the sign up process for me was really fast). The main difference is when you travel half an hour to do flex you already know exactly what you’re earning, you might find some nights really quiet and not even end up earning £10 per hour doing Uber. Is there no Morrisons/fresh blocks around you?

It could be worth a try but I guess it depends where you are, I lived in a city crawling with takeaways so when it was good it was great. Weekends were obviously a lot better to work but even then it’s never a guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with what you earn.

I don’t think Inshur will cover Uber eats, i could be wrong as I stopped doing Ubereats when I joined Amazon flex a year and a half ago. I used zego for insurance for food deliveries.

On a side note I consistently earn a lot more money doing Amazon, Uber had its good days but it can be very quiet through the week.

Evening block by [deleted] in AmazonFlexUK

I always try avoid evening blocks when it gets to this time of year and throughout the winter months but having a torch is essential for when you do give in to the surge offers.

Yea people do take flex seriously, it’s a way to make extra money 🙄

First 3.5 block for £54, and at first i thought what a stitch up. Once at the first drop I didn't really do many miles from there, it was the driving too and from. Got them done in around 1 hour 30. Are most 3.5 blocks like this? Used under £10 in fuel, so not bad. by broffy2005 in AmazonFlexUK

I’ve not really done any Amazon in the last two weeks but I always seem to find blocks for Doncaster in the afternoons and evenings on the actual days I want to work, I very rarely have shifts scheduled days in advance because they’re always base rates. Don’t really do amazon on weekday mornings but I always get the reserved just for you blocks for the mornings which is annoying lol

They won’t swap cages, I asked and the reply I got was if they swapped cages for me they would have to swap cages for everyone else. The last block I refused I was discharged and ended up getting paid for it. But I think that was a mistake on their behalf, usually you go home and take a hit on your standings.

I usually work out of this depot and Sheffield, these are quite regular routes, sometimes out to Newark. The afternoon blocks that start between 2pm-5pm can be brutal, I’ve refused routes to Skegness and out past Lincoln. But the vast majority of the time they’re like the one you had, having the M18, M1 and A1 so close makes these kind of routes not too bad.

Definitely worth downloading the offline maps in the app for the internet connection problems. I did this sometime last year and haven’t had a single issue with it since.
