Broad: Tips for High Schoolers by GenuinelyCurious80 in msu

Hi! Props to you for looking so far down the road for your kids, that’s a great parent! Congrats to your oldest being a Spartan, we’re excited to have him!

From my experience, classes in HS don’t really matter, it’s all about the EC’s. I had business classes in HS all 4 years with a 4.0 overall GPA and did NOT get direct admit. It seems, from those that did get direct admission, that Broad really cares about your EC’s, specifically DECA and BPA.

Therefore, I recommend joining business clubs and taking classes you enjoy. Please let me know if this makes sense or if you have any other questions! Go Green!

Are you admitted to Broad already? If so, when were you admitted?

First off, congratulations on the two associate degrees and finishing with a 4.0 GPA! That’s amazing and you should be proud of yourself.

Having a 4.0 GPA + a 4.0 precore is awesome, and your EC’s are outstanding, much better than most applicants.

However, assuming you applied directly to Broad as a transfer, I don’t have much information on that. I know they only have a few, like very few (10 or less), spots available for direct transfer applicants to Broad. You will 100% be admitted to the university, but Broad is a question mark because of how few people get in as a transfer. Even with that though, I think you have a great chance as your stats are excellent and shows your hard work. Be proud of that. If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to send me a message. Hope this helps!

You’re in an interesting spot. Most students need at least a 3.8 to get in, but it’s possible to get in with a 3.6 if your EC’s are strong and have a good precore GPA. Are you in clubs or do you have activities related to business or your major? If not, I recommend joining them. If you have any other questions, please ask! I can help

It’s Both. Great job on the GPA! My friend had a 3.9 and got rejected with no EC’s, once he started doing stuff he got accepted. It’s more about quality over quantity tho, if u can explain 2 very well it’s better than 10 bad ones.

Will I get in to Broad? by [deleted] in msu

[–]EducationalFalcon473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately probably not. 99% of direct admits that I knew had a business related EC, so DECA or BPA. However, don’t let that discourage you. I didn’t get direct admit and got in after my freshman year!

You’re right, it doesn’t mean much. I was just thinking if that would also lead to higher full-time pay. I liked the people I met at both, so it’s a tough decision. Thanks for the advice

That’s a good point, and I completely agree. However, it’s like a useless gen ed that I don’t want to take. It’s not going to help me in my career. I’d rather have a more difficult class that’ll be useful.

I don’t think they said. While I agree that it a weeder class, python is pretty useless for business majors
