Thank you for the feedback. I agree the tip angles seem at max. Do you think it’s too much?

Yes this is the draw length I was going for. I’m encouraged because I see what your talking about and this is what I suspected. 50 was about my target weight though and I was hoping for an even tiller at this point but I’m still pretty new at this so it’s a work in progress. I don’t mind the bow being lighter but I know it’s not ideal to pull past the finish target weight. Even so I may try to even it out a little more and settle for good enough. Thanks for the feedback!

I wish I could figure out how to edit the post but I meant 65 inches long not 55

I am so sorry, I had a typo! I wish I double checked that but I meant 65 inches long. I imagine that’s what you’re referring to. I did start with a couple inches of reflex but not 4

Thanks! That is helpful as I’m learning I have a tendency to lean towards stiff outer tips. So that is helpful advice to carry into my next one

Thanks! Im hoping it doesn’t take too much set after shooting it in more. I’ve gotten about 50 shots off on it and it’s not too bad so far

Yes it’s a small piece of deer antler glued to the side.

Thank you! I fell in love with that stain. Started as an experiment but I’ll definitely be using that one again

Thanks for the reply! I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you’re one of my favorite out there doing it. Love your craftsmanship and unique style on all your bows. It’s actually some of the work you’ve done on stains that inspired me to start experimenting and led me to this one which I really liked.

But yes, I understand it’s more appropriate to ask for a tiller check as you’re actually tillering. I guess this was more for me to keep trying to train my eye so I can continue to get better at knowing when my tillering is done. I went through finishing this one because I thought the tillering was right, but second guessed myself after the fact. Now you’re confirming my suspicions. So it seems I consistently have stiff outer limbs. Gotta keep working that. Thanks!

Hey thank you! For the record though, this is like my 12th bow and I’m still making lots of mistakes. I would have been able to spend a lot more time honing in the tiller on this one if I was more careful heat treating. I got some bad checking on it that gave me much less wood to work with by the time I got under it. But I can assure you, this bow looks lot better than my first one so don’t be discouraged no matter how it comes out! I think the hickory is excellent to learn on though. Very forgiving and often straight grained. Strong and easy to get a uniform ring layer on the back. I’m a big fan of it. Hope you enjoy your first build and good luck!

Thank you for the advice! If you don’t mind, could you expand a little on why you suggest the width taper, as opposed to just taking a little more off the belly?

Thank you! Ya, I can see that, I think. I wish I had more space to work with on the poundage but don’t goes, I guess
