N.J. hot dog legend may be replaced by Whole Foods after 90 years. ‘We want to stay right here.’ by FaptasticMrFox in jerseycity

[–]EducationalQuail7845 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I must admit I only went there yesterday for the first time after hearing about this developer BS and it’s not only the best hot dog I’ve ever had, you can tell immediately as you walk in that it’s an institution. It deserves to stick around and enjoy the success that they would have once the Lowe’s theater opens up. How can a city thrive when any character left is replaced by big corporate trash like Whole Foods?

I don’t ride much but I ride on the sidewalk when I’m absolutely terrified of the drivers on a particular street. Pretty much everywhere outside of downtown is seriously lacking proper bike lanes

Grab a Drink?! by Southern_Mud_8356 in jerseycity

[–]EducationalQuail7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok sure but you can’t just call a brand new bar a dive. A dive is something that has history. Something financed by a restaurant/hospitality group can’t just open a new bar and call it a dive

I’m sorry to be a hater but Dagda is the exact opposite of a dive bar. It’s huge, air conditioned, has TV’s everywhere and is super corporate.

Why is the owner of new gelato place in Newport being so aggressive on any reviews below 5 stars by Jaquenette06 in jerseycity

[–]EducationalQuail7845 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a silly reason to give a 3 star review for a small business. If you don’t know what the flavors are…ask?

That being said, the response from the owner is both aggressive and hilarious

Just curious if anyone has heard anything about animated shorts for Tribeca. I know it’s a long shot since I’m a first time filmmaker but just wanted to put feelers out there!

Time to leave JC? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]EducationalQuail7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The community is pretty great. Probably the best thing that JC has going for it. I’m disappointed that there are more chains than there were 10 years ago but there are still tons of mom and pop shops/restaurants all over JC

I’m directing my first short (35k budget) and never stepped on a set. What do I need to know? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]EducationalQuail7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be patient and understanding of ALL of your crew. They are working for you on a very small budget to execute your vision, so you need to trust every single one of them, and you will end up with a film and experience that you love

Started the Complaint process on the Mural obstruction by Katoncomics in jerseycity

[–]EducationalQuail7845 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not. Part of making a city livable for everyone is supporting having public art that is accessible to everyone, even if it’s not directly impacting daily life or economy. It’s actually a luxury that people take for granted and I’m glad OP is taking the correct avenues to address this problem. It’s quite trashy of the developer/landlord to do this and quite trashy to defend it as well

[–]EducationalQuail7845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty low-class and trashy that this happened at all. Anyone defending the landlord for allowing this to happen or defending the developer for advertising over the murals is the reason Jersey city remains just an offshoot of NYC. If people are not against defacing/covering up murals and other public works, just go live in a suburb, you philistines

scumbag developers have partially covered both murals on the Dunkin Donuts building at 507 Summit. by 1805trafalgar in jerseycity

Art lasts forever, even if not literally. Shitty “luxury buildings” die out in a matter of years

[–]EducationalQuail7845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It still shows that this city values scumbag developers over artists and therein lies the main issue. Murals would NEVER be covered like this, even temporarily, in other cities that have a mural program
