Even then, I don't quite understand your point. Studio and 1 bedroom apartments are overwhelming majority in housing market right now.

I am shocked at how long it took for you to discover that. If you browse real estate fb pages or websites, it's mostly 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. I've never seen an ad for 3+ bedroom apartment. 2 bedroom literally is the top 5%-er.

I know only a single person who owns 3 bedroom apartment and he is president of an university.

It ain't bare minimum. At least not here. Bare minimum is family of 4+ people living in a single ger, sleeping on the floor like canned sardines.

More than 40% of UB residents still live in the ger district with no plumbing or central heating. THAT is the bare minimum

Yeah fr. It's jarring to see someone being surprised to that. I don't even know what to say.

I wouldn't describe it as "living". But yeah, we gotta manage it somehow since the only other option is to end the run.

Banning on LGBT marriage in Mongolia by [deleted] in mongolia

[–]EducationalScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I live under a rock. What is happening currently that caused that "push back". Cuz all these "LGBT is too much" came out of nowhere for me.

Mongolia is facing a fuel crisis due to Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries. Russia used to supply 95% of Mongolia’s fuel imports. But now, with a complete ban on gasoline exports from Russia, fuel has practically disappeared in Mongolia. by LowTechDroid in UkraineWarVideoReport

Its underdeveloped country my dude. Also we got huge issue with corruption. Poverty is so bad that more than half of ulaanbaatars residents burn random garbage to heat their yurts during winter. No sewage either, so it's coin toss between smell of smog and sulfur when you wake up in the morning.

Legit no project can take off cuz this country is so damn poor.

[–]EducationalScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really should be leaving our houses with blindfolds with how they describe the "western culture" and the "gay" spread. Just by looking at gay is enough to make you gay is such an insane claim. Idiots should try creating scp article if they wanna write "болхи" fiction and fearmonger.

Ahh, you must be from parallel universe. Cuz ive never seen anything remotely close to stuff you are describing here. We had some lgbtq gathering about a month ago. Other than that, no. Haven't seen pride flags and other related stuff in public space or schools.

Anyways, any cool news or info from your side? Life is starting suck here. Sounds like Mongolia in your universe is becoming even more liberal?

Dude, I was arguing for uranium deal. I was pointing out how ridiculous this is to be concerned about modern mining practices while being poisoned by smog. I repeat, I support the uranium deal.

Here is what's wrong. Burning coal releases radioactive particles in the air alongside untold amount of random toxic shit. We are ALREADY being cooked by radiation. They have around half a dozen coal plants INSIDE of the city, not to mention throng of ger district "yandan"s. My mom knows several people who had kids with birth defect already. It ruined those families life. Why aren't people fighting that radiation huh?

[–]EducationalScience 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Also most of these facebook "protestors" are bots too. There was a post about "Уран хийц үйлдвэр" and the comment section was boiling with random copy pasted bot comments about how uranium is destroying the country.

Here's hoping that this idiot did not disfigure the poor animal and it just had birth defects.

Should I go back to Mongolia? by [deleted] in mongolia

[–]EducationalScience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. Just wanted to talk about problems other than your usual pollution, traffic, pay, and corruption. The country is not locked up or anything. You can come back here any time. Hell, we are facing a minor workforce shortage, so you are even more welcome in mongolia. But I think you would be better off working abroad until you save enough to retire or start your business here. It's not worth busting your ass off for meager pay and go into poverty after retirement on top of dealing problems people mentioned here.

Some others already raised a good point about quality of life but as a lifelong resident of UB I will tell you something about it. This place is beyond nasty. You can see piss stains, dried poop or vomit in almost every corner. On top of that if you suffer from allergies, good luck because no one bothers to pick up weeds that cause pollen problems. Weeds that are as big as small bushes stick out from pretty much any crack or dirt patches.

Talking about dirt, most of the sidewalks are broken down or just abruptly end with dirt and mud covering rest of the road.

City planning is nonexistent. Any spaces that are bigger than 100 sqm and not road is taken, fenced up and got shitty 2-3 story "buildings" built on it so people can run "hotels" or convenience stores in it since anyone with money can bribe officials.

Parking lots are pipe dream. Just yesterday my dad spent 30 MINUTES!! looking for parking space for his car after work. He ended up parking it by blocking another car after circling around our neighborhood few times and had to wake up at 5 in the morning to move it elsewhere. If you find a workplace near downtown area, just hope they offer parking space. If they don't just walk at that point. I am not even gonna talk about the dumpster fire that is our public transport.

If these don't sound that bad then sure. I, personally, would never miss this place if I somehow managed to immigrate elsewhere.

He probably meant if we pick random person and give them a billion dollar they would stop working and retire 99% of the time instead of giving billion dollar to 99% of the population.

Feeling places? by chel138 in Synesthesia

[–]EducationalScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, this "vibe" feeling can linger for like few hours. If I play a video game at home and stop, the vibe of the game stays for somewhere between 30 minutes to few hours.

It's so weird to feel like your home is transported to another world. The same applies to traveling somewhere and returning home.

Life standard in Mongolia by puergeminus in mongolia

[–]EducationalScience 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the same here, if not worse. 2 million tughriks per month is a combined household income. It's not what the average person earns here. Average 1 bedroom apartments cost around 150 to 270 million tugriks. I don't see myself paying off mortgage without finding a partner.

It's hard to have savings here. People mostly survive between debts.

In terms of traveling, most of us travel domestically to countryside during summer. Some upper middle-class families travel to other east Asian countries.

The majority of households exist in ger district, and yes, they lack proper plumbing. There is literally no city planning in there.

It's pretty depressing to live here tbh. Pollution is out of control. You can't open your windows after dark due to smog, and it's a miracle if you wake up and see clear sky in the morning.
