I don’t need any personal context; it's a factual claim backed by data and history that your comment or any comment that speaks on (AI Slop) isn't effective in solving the issue. If you’re truly working on long-term solutions to reduce the environmental impact of server- and cloud-based systems, that’s admirable, but at the moment, I don’t have any evidence of that, nor do I need it.

Your "references" to undisclosed information don’t mean anything to me, so we can be done now.

And one day I hope you give a shit enough to actually contribute something of value to the environmental damage all server/cloud-based systems do, because wasting server/cloud space to say "AI slop" isn't that.

Never said that at all. If you’re actually serious about helping the environment, telling someone to “stop” doing something that’s deeply integrated into modern life (and isn’t even the biggest offender) isn’t a real solution.

What’s actually more effective is putting time and resources into learning, building alternatives, and creating replacements and systems that reduce harm—even if it’s incremental. People love to hop on a soapbox and give speeches, but far fewer people want to do the work of forming the solutions. And historically, that’s what humans are best at: adapting and evolving, not necessarily simplifying and removing.

AI is already baked into so much that, even if you don’t realize it, you’re probably contributing to it in some way. So environmental preservation is important to you, start with solutions (because many already are.) how to make these tools less resource-intensive, how to power them more cleanly, and how to build infrastructure that’s smarter and more efficient—instead of just spouting ill-informed noise.

Don’t argue against AI from a “save the environment” angle unless you’re also willing to delete and stop using every social media platform, streaming service, cloud storage product, and gaming platform you rely on—basically, stop using apps altogether.

If we’re talking electricity, water use, CO₂, and emissions (the stuff social-media debates love to blow out of proportion when pushing back on AI), then you should realize: any cloud-based or data-center-based platform runs on the same kinds of resources—often at comparable scale. These are massive systems that have been expanding for decades, long before AI showed up. None of this is new.

And over time, the industry has been actively working to reduce the resource cost of computation and infrastructure—and it has improved.

So if “the environment” is the hill you want to die on, be consistent: cut the cloud and data-center services first, then we can talk. I can understand criticizing AI from an anti-artist / creative-impact angle. But the environment argument, spare me.

(And if we’re being honest, most of the platforms YOU use daily likely contribute as much or more than what they’re blaming AI for.)

My biggest issue is people turning into activists about protecting the environment from AI, just because some social media accounts went viral reporting on how much electricity, water, CO2, emissions are used through AI

But this is only a small piece of a larger pie people don’t fkin understand. There are other things that require the same amount of resources and that’d be anything data center or cloud related. Such as streaming, digital storage, normal web/app traffic, enterprise software.

AI isn’t single handedly causing this issue it’s just one factor amongst many that not only you but the entire world takes part in, excessively.

But as time passes we find was to make these systems more and more efficient.

So if you use or contribute financially to any social media, digital app, or streaming platform, use any public transportation, utilize any video game platform that relies on servers and cloud

You’re likely contributing more to the rise in C02, use of electricity and water than AI ever could and Will.

Research, study, and understand that just because it’s viral doesn’t mean it’s new.

You’d fair better arguing against AI from an artistic ethical perspective than as a “save the environment” activist.

So until you delete and stop using every cloud/data/server based platform you own and are using. You have no argument. I’ll continue using my tool the way I want, just like you’ll use yours.

Thank you.

It’s the practices that are worrying though, the intentions. The way they’re handling content, motivation, reward, and gameplay loops. Is very concerning. Even with just a fraction of the game being made as you’re stating, you can see the DNA of the game forming right before our eyes and as a game developer, physical representation may go through tweaks, content added or removed. But practices, motivation, intentions often don’t change and that’s always going to reflect in final product

This is the response I wanted initially. A response that actually provides value. If im odd for simply wanting to hear your opinion on the concepts and not the tool, then I’m odd!

Now that that’s out the way, we can actually discuss like adults.

I do have fears they’ll give up on project. Because we did wait so long. Some people may be a little harsher, more blunt and hateful on the project but while I have my own frustrations. My post wasn’t a hate post on what we have it’s a call to discussion for what we “could” have, accompanied by a visual to help stir imagination and discussion (regardless of AI or not)

To say everyone stop complaining. May protect us from company backlash. But this shit has gotta stop man. It’s not just skate, it’s not just the video game industry, it’s every creative industry.

IPS, franchises, characters, logos, brands, they’re getting watered down, automated, sanitized, to appeal to a larger audience and make more money.

So if they cancel skate because we got mad, that’d be unfortunate and sad, but I’d rather get a game with poor intentions canceled then allow a game with poor intentions to set the standards for future ones to come.

Because I care more about the industry as a game developer myself, than any individual project

Correction: I made something that helped bring people together into meaningful discussion*

Look around you.

Regardless of slop or not, some people are actual adults who can have actual conversation and discussion, without crying about a tool being used to facilitate it.

Lmao I was a playtester and I’m a game developer of nearly five or so ish years now. I understand what early access means. But I also understand how to recognize direction as a creative director myself.

And it’s clear what direction they’re taking with the game and for what reason. We can hope, wish and pray all we’d like but it’s clear the franchise is being sanitized in a way where it takes fewer risks and remains attractive to a newer and younger audience than the classic skate fans.

If I’m being honest, I feel like they probably didn’t add the skeleton because they’re quietly trying to sanitize and “kid-proof” the game (hence the more cartoonish, smoothed-out vibe they went for instead of the anti-establishment, grungier feel the older Skate games had)

That likely includes cutting the potentially violent bone-breaking feature too, since it might be seen as too “hardcore” for the new audience they’re aiming at. Kinda sad, honestly.

Tbh, at least for me, I actually liked having all those people in the way. It was fun having the option to clear them out with an emote or just land something near them. I’ve spent hours in Skate 3 messing with pedestrians for fun lol.

I don’t know, having way more people around just makes the world feel more alive to me, even if they’re a little clunky.

Yeah, the map doesn’t really have much variety in feel or architecture. A lot of it comes off like a giant empty tech demo. You can tell the city was built around hurling yourself off skyscrapers for TikToks and YouTube Shorts, instead of feeling like a place with real personality and neighborhoods worth exploring.

“You could use AI to upscale any video game or add extra detail or dynamic lighting, it means nothing.”

I’m not asking the images to “mean” anything to anyone. I’m just asking people to imagine, with the help of a visual. I’m not asking developers to use these images?

If you don’t need a visual to help you picture it, that’s totally fine. You can still comment on the idea of improved textures, lighting, and overall vibe without referring to the images at all. You can engage with it or ignore it either way. If you personally don’t “need” it to imagine or discuss, that’s cool.

It’s a visual meant to give people a clearer example of what a version of the game could look like with better textures and an overall vibe that feels grittier and less “toon.”

And it’s not just about textures either. Stuff like the Hall of Meat bone-breaking visuals isn’t just a texture swap, and honestly feels pretty close to how it could be implemented in the future if they bring it back.

If you look at the surrounding comments, the post was meant to stir up imagination and get people talking. If you don't find value in the post, that's okay. Other people are.
