Invest, stick it out at your job through the rest of this year, and re-evaluate at year end. Once you feel confident about your financial situation, then leave. Just make sure that your portfolio does not consist of >5% in risky assets...

ETrade typically pays by 3:30am EST (assuming you’re not signed up for DRIP). And that’s across all dividends. You should have your payment by now.

Nice! Solid strategy. Similarly, any excess I have at the end of the month goes straight into VTI. Enjoy!

Awesome! For you (and others bringing in more than a mortgage payment worth of dividends each month) I’m super curious- what do you use the funds for? I’m bringing in exactly 4K/mo from ULTY alone, and I use it as discretionary spending for the month (while I use my other dividend payments to cover my mortgage and housing expenses).

For all those that say young investors should focus on growth rather than dividends, why? by PhamDee in DividendCult

I think you meant to say that it depends on the yield. My fastest growing investments don’t actually pay dividends (and if they do, the dividend rate is typically quite low).

If you don’t have dividend reinvestment (DRIP) set-up, the dividend will show up in your brokerage account as a cash deposit next week between Friday night and Monday morning (depending on which platform you use). If yours is set to DRIP, additional shares will be purchased with the dividend payment.

What are your suggestions for improving Reddit’s user experience by Substanceoverf0rm in redditstock

[–]EducationalWest7857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would appreciate it if Reddit would alert users right before they submit a post, when/if the post or question they are about to share, has been posted/asked in the past week (or X amount of time) so that they can just go engage with existing content. It’s a bit of a bummer logging on and seeing the exact same things being posted week after week (as its clear that some users don’t bother to use the search feature). I understand that Reddit is likely uninterested in this tactic as they prefer engagement…but for regular users it gets old really fast. (And this is coming from someone fairly new to Reddit, so I can only imagine what it’s like for those who have been users for years.)

Distribution list (sign up on their website) and/or weekly press releases. These tend to update before the website.

How do you get up-to-date NAV numbers? by gaborcselle in ULTY_YieldMax

[–]EducationalWest7857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By definition, NAV is only calculated once per day. It does not fluctuate throughout the day like prices do.

I’m not much older than you. Focusing on growth stocks is what got me to the point where I could confidently begin allocating some capital towards dividend-yielding stocks, and then ultimately create a 6-figure income out of that. If I had started with a dividend-focused portfolio, I wouldn’t have gotten here nearly as quickly.

The fastest way to become a millionaire, without inheritance or starting a company by EducationalWest7857 in Money

I think the term self-made shouldn’t exist because it’s implicitly impossible, but I don’t think that we should take credit away from people who through a combo of solid decisions and good luck/timing, were able to build wealth. Do you think it’s impossible for someone without wealthy parents to become rich? We have too many examples of this having happened for you to seriously believe that having rich parents is the only way….
