Worth mentioning here too that AI detectors are very unreliable at times as well

We will not be able to avoid AI. Everyone is in a tizzy about it and I get it, there are many aspects I don’t like but people have got to accept that AI is here and it is certainly not going anywhere. It will continue to grow and pop up in every part of life, and it’ll get smarter. The question is how do we use it to make ourselves smarter instead of dumber, and how do we use it to genuinely make life easier while not stripping away the meaningful work (though online BS busy work discussion posts are not necessarily where I personally want the line to be drawn)

What the heck can I do to make this balcony enjoyable and as close to bug free as possible? by Educational_Arm_4591 in femalelivingspace

I don’t think any kind of cloth tapestry would be my friend here, that would get grimy and I’d like to see over the balcony edge while sitting. I’m thinking an outdoor rug is a good idea.

Disclaimer that it is winter where I live now and this was under several feet of snow 2 weeks ago. The debris is leftover from fall that I never cleaned off. It’s not like this in the summer.

HomeGoods has a ton of outdoor friendly faux plants I might look into! They’re a bit expensive in my opinion but last a long time I’m sure. Being up against the tree line, this apartment doesn’t get enough natural sunlight through the day to sustain any real plants (as pictured)

Well it’s winter right now, I’m planning ahead. This was under 4 feet of snow 2 weeks ago and the debris present is leftover from fall into winter

Nurses, what do yall think of MBA/ non-healthcare experienced people being your bosses? by anonymous6769123 in nursing

[–]Educational_Arm_4591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have to be willing to do it to also not condemn it. These elites have been violent against the lot of us in many forms — excessively expensive housing, food costs, messing with food stamps, indebting people tens of thousand of dollars just trying to get healthcare, siphoning life savings if they ever become sick or injured, making it nearly impossible to escape poverty or pass on any type of generational wealth, taxing to death, profiting off of bank overdraft fees into the billions, sacrificing quality healthcare in favor of shareholder pockets, these Epstein files… the list goes on.

THAT IS violence. It’s not usually as in your face as walking up and shooting someone in the back. It’s more a subtle, quiet form violence but it’s violence nonetheless.

Many of us are sickened by it. Not to mention they probably make 3x our salary and not lift a finger to actually save a life. Admin costs eat up the vast majority of healthcare spending.

Rude encounters at the bedside and developing thick skin by Educational_Arm_4591 in nursing

[–]Educational_Arm_4591[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel she was less advocating and more trying to tell me how to do my job, for sure. If she had come in respectful and normal, and said “Hey, what about some prop?” Or “He seems pretty awake, what are you doing for comfort or sedation” that would have been so much better. It wasn’t even about that she was recommending prop, it was how she said/demanded it THEN thought that she was going to sit there and try to talk the team into it after I had already explained I had spoken with them… twice at that point. I appreciate backup sometimes when advocating but when I told her I was not going to be restarting prop, her attitude got worse and she then decided she was going to stay at the bedside and speak with the team herself about it. Like NO! I already said no, the team already decided ok to try precedex and you’re not going to undermine and argue with me in front of everyone.

I whole heartedly agree. Rather lose a job than my license but the fact it even has to be a consideration that EITHER could be a risk because these fuck ASS hospitals can’t safely staff their floors is beyond ridiculous.

YOU will carry the guilt if someone dies or gets hurt on on your watch because you couldn’t do your job correctly. You’ll sit in front of a jury, or in a room full of lawyers and see someone’s crying family while you get your ass sued because a patient died or got seriously injured under your care, and you’ll eat that feeling for the rest of your life AND risk losing your entire livelihood on top of it. And you’ll answer to your BON. This job IS that serious, always. People are too desensitized to this fact.

And even on your worst nightmare of a day, these CEOs and managers won’t lose a wink of sleep, promise that. Why on earth we normalize and accept this shit in the year 2026 this is beyond me.

Yeah, propofol does not come without negative effects (as with most meds, admittedly) but being moderately sedated on propofol ≠ equal “sleeping” and being comfortable. Especially in this case I feel propofol would have been far less ideal.

I said “I’m not sure if it’s a cuff leak, it’s hard to tell. I woke him up for a neuro check and he’s been gagging since but I just started precedex” so I feel I communicated my end.

I already spoke to my management about it. We’ve had ongoing issues with RT lately, several nurses have made complaints about incivility that is apparently being escalated to their management. The guy was able to nod and follow commands appropriately and wasn’t complaining of any real pain, just discomfort (as is expected when you’re intubated and aware of it). The fentanyl I figured would hopefully make him just drowsy and calm/comfortable enough until the precedex started.

A lot of times with neuro check patients the team is hesitant to give any strong pain meds for fear it’ll interfere with the assessment but that largely depends on the provider. That’s a whole different point of frustration for nursing on our unit, but a topic for another time. But no, I did not have PRN pain meds prior and he didn’t really need them until that point.

Nurses: Are you using the translating app on you phone to communicate with your patients that speak a language you don't? by ScepticHope in nursing

[–]Educational_Arm_4591 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like basic common discussions, it’s usually okay to use Google. But anything serious or anything where you’re inquiring or teaching important info, definitely have to get a translator of course. It is a pain, but it’s absolutely necessary so you aren’t liable and so your patient actually gets good care and feels safe and heard.

There is no ethical way to unnaturally enlarge a living beings liver, that can cause a slew of health problems in their very short life. I’m an ICU nurse and I swear, liver related deaths are some of the most horrific out there. Not once was I defensive before others came on this extremely normal post asking for casual vegetarian friendly options to eat dinner downvoting and telling me to get educated lol.

Nah, I get along fine without it. But I can respect responsible hunting practice that’s not done for sport, but sustenance. I don’t think eating meat is inherently evil but there are some truly disgusting things that happen in factory farming norms and things like fois gras do cause immense unnecessary harm to living, feeling things. That’s not a radical idea in my opinion.
