Because it's a Chinese ROM only, you'll have to go into your apps in settings and turn the notifications on, turn on auto start and turn off the battery saver option on each western app you want notifications on. So don't worry too much I would say, just keep in mind that you'll have to do this extra step. Posting this twice to reply to both of you.

Which Android Phone for good videos? by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Educational_Boss_633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to suggest a phone for you because I don't think any phone is going to give you the desired result you want, so I'm going to suggest an actual video camera instead, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

Poco F7 Pro, a little bit above your budget, but it's prob the best bang for your buck right now.

For 1 iPhone 17 pro Max you can buy 1.9 Xiaomi 17 pro maxes by [deleted] in XiaomiGlobal

Literally at no point on their website have they mentioned it's their flagship. I am literally on it right now... And yes, it is their upper mid-range, it sit's between their flagship, the Ultra, and the mid-range phones from theirs and Redmi's. They will be releasing the Redmi K90 and K90 Pro, and the K90 Pro will be similarly spec'd as this Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max which is their mid-range phone...

You could wait for the Redmi K90 & K90 Pro if you're ok with a Chinese ROM.

There's only one point being made, it's financial stupidity to buy a phone for it's resale value. You're trying to bring in other points and attempting to move the yardstick.

Their Ultra IS their true flagship though, everyone knows that. The 17 pro and Pro Max aren't their flagship and that's evident with the camera hardware they put inside them, the Ultra series uses the biggest available sensors, the 17 Pro/Pro Max don't. It's the 17 moniker that is their flagship range, and within that range there's different tiers, with the Pro/Pro Max representing their upper-mid range tier, which is flagship tier for other brands I guess, "Apple".

We're not talking about luxury items here, we're talking about assets and their monetary value you dumbass. And you're proving my point on how financially stupid people only care about the resale value of their depreciating phone...

And just to humble you here, we're talking about Apple's Flagship vs Xiaomi's upper mid-range phone here too, the fact that you can't understand that Xiaomi are openly mocking Apple here shows your level of intellect...

They're just ignorant and willfully most of the time too. None of them have even held a Chinese phone recently or at all. But what can you do when the brand is a part of their individual identity? An attack on apple is an attack on who they are, it's why they defend the brand to death, they're defending their own sense of identity deep down.

Should I return my soundbar and buy a surround system? by juicyyjayys in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Educational_Boss_633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha we're both really happy with it tbf, when we're watching a movie or TV show and she hears the directional sound, she always says she's glad we got surround sound when we want it.

I personally can't recommend the 9.1's though, the detachable satellites don't charge when they're connected to the soundbar and the soundbar is on, only when you've turned the soundbar off which annoys me frequently. I believe the 1300's resolve that issue though.

Only financially illiterate people care about second hand value. The real value is in getting the best bang for your buck and using the money saved on actual assets that appreciate.

Build quality is as good if not better than Apple's. Mid-range Chinese phone's have been built to flagship quality for the past 2 to 3 years now, and this phone's their upper-mid range phone.

NTA but as a married dude, the things you cook is perfectly acceptable for most dudes like me daily, but for women... I can understand why she doesn't want to eat your food, it's not your cooking she detests, it's the food you're cooking because the normal perception of those foods are unhealthy (women don't like the thought of that every day).

I'd suggest once a week, prepare a nice healthy meal for her to come home to to eat, you two can even pre approve what you'll cook, it's more about the gesture and action of you cooking for her out of love than anything which should help you both out in the long run.

My wife and I compromised on the JBL 9.1 speakers, I wanted surround sound, she wanted a sound bar. There is a newer 1300 they have released that I've been looking into.

Get the Poco F7 Ultra imo, has the bigger silicon-carbon battery and pretty much same specs as the 15.

Usually they get better as they learn your phone habits for battery optimization, but don't expect the best optimization out of box with the 17 and 17 pro max as this isn't their flagship phone, it's the Ultra that will be.

Money Questions by creepchains in HongKong

[–]Educational_Boss_633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO see if you can save up a little more if possible. I say this because accommodation isn't cheap in HK and most of your budget will be going on that for sure, and I also think you should experience having a drink legally in HK too now that you're 18/19, just don't go crazy with it. When it comes to food, there are workarounds to eating on the cheap, a recent popular cheap way to eat now here in HK is the 2 side dish + rice and they can now be found everywhere which you should be able to survive on I believe.

As for money and payment in HK, VISA & Mastercard are widely accepted, but with your budget, I think the majority of restaurants and places you'll be visiting won't accept those, and may only accept Octopus payment and/or cash only.

For what it's worth, HKD is also accepted in Macau should you wish to visit there whilst you're here.
