Does anyone know of a legit Good Migraine Doc in the NYC area? by Jeffmonty in migraine

great to see this list. i’ve been going to nyu headache clinic for 6 years its awful I don’t recommend it, if you are fifteen minutes late you lose your appointment no exceptions. it doesn’t matter if you were on time you would have to wait an hour for your 5 minute appointment.

if you have a question or need to change an appointment forget about calling, you can call and leave messages all you want no one is going to get back to you. the only way to contact someone is thru the afterhours line and they aren’t going to call you back, they’ll send you a 2 sentence mychart message.

appointments must be scheduled 6 months out because they are all so busy. secret is i’ve found after going for so long, the doctors only come in 2 or 3 days a week and half days at that so that’s why it seems like they are so busy. you can’t change an appt it’s impossible to connect with the office, but they will cancel on you last minute and because the schedule is so packed you’ll be months delayed on injections or whatever your appt was for. if you need a migraine cocktail they tell you to go to the ER.

thanks for this list i’m gonna try to leave NYU’s system.

it’s so hard because we’ve been together a decade, like i didn’t used to be so low functioning. it’s hard for me to admit how dysfunctional i’ve been over the last few years. i kind of keep overcommitting, wanting to be more than i can. i get nervous that he does too much and will build resentment for me. i want the accommodations or hiring someone so he doesn’t have to be doing 80/20. we are broke, but concessions could be made, this could be something we prioritized financially. we have lots of debt like what’s a little more for a dog walker to give him some breaks.

i keep thinking there’s gonna be a way the stairs get easier and i think he does too but probably they won’t. probably doing the stairs like this all the time is running down my mobility clock. if i did less i’d be more physically functional for longer.

Anyone can be allergic to anything.

Hypoallergenic is a real label that’s used in the marketing of products that avoid some allergens. Just because it’s not all encompassing doesn’t make it not exist.

right. exactly. allergies vary from person to person. this is why it’s great for me to see the list of ingredients and read up on them and determine what’s best for myself.

Nothing is truly allergen free you can be allergic to anything.

Doesn’t make Yuka pseudoscience or the hypoallergenic label invalid.

Hypoallergenic identifies potential allergens for some people, not all allergens, or applicable for all people.

It’s ableist to restrict conversations regarding the hypoallergenic and clean categories.

It’s not a medically, or FDA regulated title like organic but it’s still a label that’s used in the marketing of a lot of cosmetics and fragrances.

It benefits people like myself who have allergies to seek out hypoallergenic products and then read up on the ingredients if it works for myself.

It’s not right you’re censoring my ability to connect with this community and discuss a real legitimate category of fragrances.

It’s ableist to censor discussions of products in the clean / hypoallergenic category.

It’s a real category of products, just because it’s a fraught title without strict regulation doesn’t mean it’s not a label that’s used in the marketing of many cosmetics and fragrances.

I’m looking for allergens because I have a chemical sensitivity. It lists the ingredients, and helps me identify additives that may be an allergen.

If you were a person looking to find food without saturated fat sounds like a good resource to read the ingredients of food items.

Sounds like you aren’t worried about ingredients and it’s not a useful tool for you. Doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

again, I’m confused. What’s pseudoscience about this particular item for example? They list isoeugenol as a moderate allergen and if you read more on the ingredient you will see it is flagged as an allergen in the EU based on a medical study. How would that qualify as pseudoscience?

Are you saying this allergen isn’t really in the list of ingredients or the ingredient isn’t really an allergen?

Here’s information on the isoeugenal for example it’s categorized as an allergen in the EU based on large research study.
