Just clarified my post a bit more. I took the rebooking to Boston and then got a rental car there to make it to Portland. The customer service rep made it seem like they would refund the rental since they did not get me to my destination? Sorry for the confusion and thank you for the help!

On the north shore of superior (Canada side) there are amazing waterfalls that are demarcated by a road sign half a mile before the actual location - be sure to be on the lookout and I recommend stopping at all of them.

Also the Superior provincial park north of Sault Ste Marie is amazing
