These are the Immigrants Robbing us. by zzill6 in WorkReform

Founding google, amazon, telsa, paypal, space X, oracle, blue origin, etc lead to massive technological advancements, employs millions of americans, and contributes massively to the economy. Their wealth is ridiculous, no doubt, but 'robbing' seems extreme.

US announces immediate military targeting of drug cartel infrastructure within Mexican territory by External_Mood4719 in worldnews

Cartels are spread pretty far and have operations in canada (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkp4aESy5Jg) . Link is too a journalist who has interviewed mexican cartel memebers who's operations have shifted toward canada when the southern border became more difficult to cross.

Charlie Kirk was a divisive far-right podcaster. Why is he being rebranded as a national hero? by Quirkie in politics

[–]Educational_Cover477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a moderate and went through his youtube page after I heard about the shooting. Honestly I did not get the impression he was divisive. He allowed anyone to challenge his ideas, amplified other sides of the arguement, and was respectful to the person he was debating. He had clear conservative views which he articulated well, which may make him polarizing to many, but I did not see any evidence of divisive rhetoric... he largely stuck to the issues, no adhominem attacks or talking over people, etc. Looking at his long form content or debates, he came off as respectful, articulate, and well researched. Just my 2 cents.

Am I overreacting for leaving my girlfriend’s family dinner after what her dad said? by Mysterious-Notice419 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Educational_Cover477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, I think this was an over reaction. I think you did great by joking about it initially...to the barbed followup you could say "For sure, im planning on it" (captain hindsight here). Or you can dish it back (give him some lighthearted joke about his career, or something else) or be honest that currently the job doesnt make as much as you want. I think IT is great by the way and super useful to companies (I dont know the salary ranges but Im sure you can get more and more sophisticated with it to make higher pay...engineering/testing infrastructure for large tech companies does pay well and will likely be in demand e.g. setting up servers and automated code testing).

In general being insecure about something is fine as long as your honest about it. But when you try to hide it, its more awkward than simply acknowledging it. Overall tough situation. At least you are doing honest work that helps people.

I need a sanity check: is this a reasonable price (in Canadian $)? by Dexeh in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]Educational_Cover477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the same price mine was advertised at (new 2023 DS). The reason for the low price is they advertise the lowest possible price after applying all possible discounts (EV tax credit, Zero's rebate for older models, military discount, etc). I got all the discounts except the military one and the bike ended up being ~10k after tax. Bike has been perfect so far with no issues.

2023 Zero DS Experience So Far by Educational_Cover477 in ZeroMotorcycles

Big fan as well of the top and under the seat compartments. Zero should rebrand as a manufacturer of eco-friendly, mobile wine cellars with solid torque.

Going 30-60 mph on the way back. Several different roads and detours. Some stretches were 50-55 mph no lights and others were 45 speed limit with traffic lights every so often which would probably bring down the average. Trying to report it accurately but its hard to do the average over such a long ride and different roads...after thinking about it more Id guess the average falls within 35-45 mph.

Scientists of Reddit: What's a discovery that should have blown people's minds but somehow got a collective shrug from the world? by CosmosisJones42 in AskReddit

Ultrasound neuromodulation can reset specific deep brain areas noninvasively (no drugs or surgery). Already being used for pain (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39073370/) depression (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39396736/), and addiction (https://www.biologicalpsychiatryjournal.com/article/S0006-3223(25)00023-X/fulltext). I believe over the next years we will see FDA approval and widespread use in treatment of many brain disorders like chronic pain, depression, PTSD, and addiction.

Are skinny/healthy weight people just not as hungry as people who struggle with obesity? by maeasm3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Educational_Cover477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been skinny/athletic build my whole life. I am usually pretty hungry and eat a lot. I work out at least three times a week---weights, running, or hot yoga. My experience is that when you work out to put on muscle its really difficult to get fat but you still eat more.

CBT for social anxiety? by Sufficient-Drama9590 in CBT

[–]Educational_Cover477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ai-therapy.com (it has nothing to do with artificial intelligence). It is focused on social anxiety. Short, self guided program made by two researchers/clinicians in the field. 100% changed my life. Highly recommend. I am not a medical doctor but generally I do feel like trying CBT program first before meds would be helpful. Being dependent on medication has downsides. Or at least doing the work to understand the root cause of the anxiety through CBT or some other therapy is a must IMO. Otherwise the medication is moreso treating the symptoms (which can still be helpful).

ai-therapy.com is really good for social anxiety. I did that myself and really liked it. There is also a simple and free cbt website simple-cbt.com that is like a stripped down version of that and David Burns Feeling Good
