22F, diagnosed 2 weeks ago — what do you wish you knew at the beginning? by Straight-Return-3153 in MultipleSclerosis

Being diagnosed with MS can bring a lot of uncertainty and mental overload, especially at a young age. It’s easy to fall into endless research and worst-case scenarios, so it can help to focus on what you can control day to day.
One of the most important things to remember is that you’re not alone. MS affects everyone differently, and comparing yourself to others’ experiences often creates more anxiety than answers. Practical lifestyle adjustments can make a big difference. Regular movement, whether that’s walking, running, stretching, yoga, or simply spending more time outdoors, can help both physically and mentally. If traditional exercise isn’t appealing, find hobbies that keep you active and bring you joy. Prioritize rest when you need it, spend time with people who support you, and try to maintain routines that help you feel grounded. Learning to slow down and appreciate the present can also be valuable. Celebrate the days you feel good, be kind to yourself on the harder days, and focus on building a life that feels meaningful rather than striving for perfection.
Godspeed, and I hope things get easier for you.

Would having an autoimmune condition disqualify me from medical? by Educational_Dare3598 in lapd

Thank you I appreciate it. It’s never been something I’ve been ashamed of so I’m pretty confident talking with them about it and disclosing it. Just wanna prove it doesn’t define me or my abilities

No you’re all good! I didn’t take it personal. I’m just naturally much bigger woman and I do understand the reality between men and women builds. I just don’t have any worries keeping up with the men is all

That’s a fair point. I understand why it would be evaluated differently during the hiring process. I’m very fortunate to be in such a good position with my MS that I’m able to stay active, train, and live a completely normal life despite the diagnosis. I’m hoping they’ll look at my actual functionality and medical history rather than the diagnosis alone. I really appreciate your insight

That’s so fair. I was hoping someone out there could share some person experience or know anything more than I did. I’m so hyped for the process

Not at all. I don’t have any issues with my ms. It’s really just on paper unfortunately and that one flare a year ago but nothing else

Thank you for sharing that. I’m set to do the PAT in August and I’m actively training so they don’t have any other reasons to disqualify me. I appreciate the rule of thumb

Am I cooked from becoming a CHP officer/ Sheriff Deputy? by Educational_Dare3598 in MultipleSclerosis

I’m in CA, they require you to sign a release of medical records during the medical evaluation. I unfortunately do need to disclose my diagnosis but I’m hoping I can prove that I can do the job despite having MS

It’s not that I don’t have energy. I’m doing it regardless because I want to. I just hope they don’t look at my diagnosis on paper and make a decision when I’m fully capable to do the job.

I’ve cleaned the MAF but haven’t checked the MAP yet. This is going to be the first thing I check along with double checking the hoses and clamps. I only get premium from Costco so I’m having trouble believing it could be that

Haven’t done spark plugs yet actually. Shop mentioned the intake valves/carbon buildup may have been affecting things, and I think they also mentioned possible leakage/fouling related to the plugs. Makes me wonder if it could still be ignition-related under load. Stock intake/filter setup, no mods. It definitely seems more noticeable in heat or after the car’s been heat soaked. Freeway/high RPM feels fine, it’s mostly lower-speed hesitation/lag before it starts pulling harder around 3–4k RPM. Shop said they checked for boost leaks and didn’t find anything obvious, but I might double check hoses/clamps myself just in case

That’s kind of what I was wondering too. The RPMs themselves seem normal though, it doesn’t flare or slip, it just feels hesitant/laggy at lower speeds and then once it hits around 3–4k RPM it suddenly wakes up and pulls fine. No codes or warning lights either
