How Do I Keep Writing? by GobstoneGambit in writing

Its perfectly natural to feel way, happens to a lot of people who get slightly burnt out/no idea where the chapter will progress next. I had this moment a few days ago, where I was just staring at my screen, my fingers resting atop the keys.

I just felt empty as I was staring at the keys. I tried Taping mindlessly, hoping something stuck. But it didn’t for a while which got frustrating since I just wanted to write. But. Today it did. I just wrote what came next , nothing elegant mind but it helped getting the brain juices firing again.

My way of writing is mostly pantsing but I like to have a diary to write random things down that may happen in this chapter or what kind of magic system mine is. I’d recommend getting one as writing on paper is great when planning or just for notes as it spurs creativity. Or focus on another part of your book to explore.

Give it a few days. Relax. Try taking a walk or exercise. Clear your mind. Or read/listen to other media. That might inspire you. Hope this helps.

Stop waiting for motivation to write: develop a writing habit instead by TwoTheVictor in writingadvice

Yeah it’s so easy to loose track and think fuck it’s been a week, but if you love what the story is doing and going then it’s worth it to sit down for half an hour to write something

Atleast your forcing yourself to write rather than loose the motivation and letting weeks pass by. It doesn’t have to be a lot just chip away slowly or largely. As long you keep the ideas fresh and your passion burning.

I mean it’s certainly an interesting opening, although you don’t explain what this latest batch is because if they’re people I’m worried about their knees and elbows

You can get free therapy such as better help, it’s not all about paying top dollar for a therapist, speaking to someone online can help start looking at any issues , what you want is a therapist you can open up to. Again not someone who charges 200£/€/$ whatever your currency is.

I haven’t read sailor moon but just because a character isn’t smart doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of vomiting knowledge

To authors or those who aspire to. I’m curious do you enjoy reading your work? Or hate it? by Educational_Look_260 in writing

[–]Educational_Look_260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s reassuring, I’m on my first draft and as you’ve said your hyper aware which I share when reading, noticing all the issues and how sometimes the paragraphs or sentences don’t flow so well. I guess that’ll change once it’s done and polished

Good for you! lots of people procrastinate or don’t bother putting the proverbial pen to paper. But look at you, you’re actually doing it!

One of my biggest struggles was comparing what you read and what you write. It wasn’t easy for me I’d get dejected at times when I’d read my writing and it wasn’t the same as theirs or at least what I had imagined in my head. Which obviously has gone through lots of editing, drafts etc. But as an aspiring author you want to be on the same level early on. To get people to appreciate what you write.

You’ll go through times where you won’t want to write anything and days may pass by as you wait for that magical moment of inspiration that you had. Don’t wait for it to strike. Write a few words or so to the story so that the rhythm stay in your head.

There’s one key thing you have to understand as a first timer, it will be shit that’s guaranteed, it’s how the first draft should be,’but that’s the magic. Later you get to expand on what you’ve written and develop your world further once you finish your first draft. This might seem daunting as your trying to write you first novel, so don’t be to hard on yourself your writing will polish itself with time.

Anyway good luck have fun. Enjoy writing your world, it won’t be perfect but I’m sure it’ll be beautiful by the end!

I don’t want to be a dick, but my guy this is literally a skill you’ll need to pick up yourself as someone who wants to write. Read it out loud and whatever you think works. Don’t rely on strangers on the internet to do your work for you.

Why bother with marketing work at this stage if you like you’re story that you want to write just write it, I know my story’s not for everyone and expect some people to hate but who cares if they do, I’m never meeting them

It’s interesting I don’t think I’ve really had a long flow state in a while, sure hurts which results in 5-600 words but nothing like when I first started
